This study was designed to analyze the current condition of special complementary course (2001 to present) outlined in the middle school stepwise curriculum. The results of the analysis were used to suggest improvements to the special complementary course, so it can be more beneficial for the student and the teacher. This study was conducted a questionnaire research method. The total subjects were 225 math and English teachers from 42 different middle schools in the eastern part of South Cholla Province. The following are the major findings of this research. First, the subjects had a good understanding of the purpose and operation of special complementary courses. Yet the survey shows that they failed to get enough training from higher institutions or their own schools. Second, each school had much in common when it comes to the operation of special complementary course. But there were a few differences about the current conditions and the subjects' opinions on remedies according to school scale, school location, subjects in charge and teachers' careers. Third, the subjects thought that both teachers and students experienced substantial negative educational effects of special complementary course. Finally, the subjects had trouble with special complementary course because of low attendance and little learning desire of the students. The subjects felt a lot of stress due to an increase in work and class sessions because of special complementary course. In order to tackle this problem, the government, and the offices of education in cities and provinces should develop and distribute special learning materials appropriate for the students concerned, and those concerned should come up with measures to increase attendance and make efforts to reduce class sessions. Implications of findings were discussed for educational policy makers and educators.
