    The purpose of this study is to look through features of each textbook, focused upon the chapter of Natural Environment and Human Life in the social studies textbook of 10th grade used in high schools in the 7th curriculum like these: composition of textbook, development of chapters, contents of textbook, materials for studying, etc., to enhance effectiveness of teaching by providing helpful information, and to help compile next textbooks. The results are like these. First, in the aspect of composition of textbook, the quality of paper used in every textbook is not bad and easy to see by using primary colors, and utilizing of the materials is so successful, which gives good impression. As to writers, there are more teachers than professors, which is seen as desirable, in that the very place of education is considered as important. Second, in the aspect of development of chapters, it is better to teach if the striking points of each textbook are compared, analyzed and re-composed fully by teachers. Studying objectives need presenting more clearly and activities for exploring further study need showing enough materials and stating more concretely in order that students can self-study practically. Third, in the aspect of contents of textbook, it could be difficult to catch up with them if the contents of mother science (geography) are too emphasized, so what is to be chosen is the things that are most fundamental and the very cores of subjects. It is much better to choose contents students can find in their real life and that make them have more motive and interests. Fourth, in the aspect of materials for studying, they are all so colorful, comfortable to look at, and effective to use that they play great roles in increasing effects of learning. In the dimension of inducing learning motive and elevating understanding, some textbooks whose materials are less than average need strengthening. Last, nothing is more important than textbooks in teaching and learning, so continuous research and improvement about textbook must be going to be done.
