Analysis and study on the piano adventure as a teaching material

Ever since Joyang Club, the first educational institute in Korea was established in 1909 for the education of Korean music and Western music, it has showed eye-opening progress amid the heat for education and interest for music of Korean people. Currently, music education is actively given centered on babyhood, which is important period and one's adaptability for music is rapidly developing in that period. Almost of all babies in Korea start to take piano les sons for their music education. From mid-nineteenth century from which the first teaching material for beginner was published up to now, every period has appropriate teaching material for its period, and it is very important and should be careful to select and handle teaching material. Teaching materials for the piano has changed following the times and the contents is also changing due to the change of mode of music and the in crease of playing techniques. In this time of change, it is thought to be necessary to study Piano Adventure, a teaching material in which contemporary educators are interested. This study analyzed the teaching material per category such as theory, technique, lesson, play and so on, and also presented more efficient methods. As results of the study for the teaching material, the following has been found out. First, it has excellent repeated learning effect and helps luring children's interest with its fun drawings. Second, it always starts on exercise of left hand, has lyrics on every etude, and helps students experience beautiful harmony by performing duet. Third, it is so composed to experience composition·listening and has etudes arranged to feature the characteristics of the piano so that students can naturally learn techniques necessary for the piano play. As seen above, Piano Adventure has many merits. It, however has a few demerits and they shouldn't be overlooked. Too much amounts of contents may make the students be bored, and the repeated review may decrease the effect of music learning. In addition, it should be considered not to make student be bored especially in practice-centered learning or language learning. Therefore, it would produce good result by using the following methods: making lyrics on the tunes and sing them; express the tunes with body movement; making students draw their feelings after hearing the tunes and so on. Moreover, the re are too many elements of Jazz not match Korean sentiment so that it may make students puzzled. If child verses are developed and included in between the elements of Jazz, it would also be desirable education for the liveliness of Korean music culture. Furthermore, it should always be taken care not to make students regard music as they should learn about. Rather, it should be emphasized on making students gain abundant emotion and raise creativity. In childhood, if the education is centered on just feeling music, it may be rigid and cramming to make students lose their interest in music. In theory part, it is needed to study always not to entirely dependent on teaching material and make students understand very easy ones so that it wouldn't be cramming education. Consequently, it would be unreasonable just to use only Piano Adventure as a teaching material. Active studies on various teaching materials are desired. There are about 70 kinds of teaching materials for the piano published around the world and especially in Japan, there are 50 kinds, however, we have only a few kinds of teaching materials. Although the passion and musical talent of teacher are important in the piano education, but it also can be controlled by the teaching material. Therefore, it was found to be urgent to research and develop good teaching material suitable Korean sentiment, and the desirable piano education is due to the professional research and devotional efforts of teachers in charge of education.
