The purpose of this study was to examine how the personal characteristics of female elderly people in a local community were correlated to their own religion, self-esteem and mental health and in which way their self-esteem and mental health were affected by Christianity. The major findings of the study were as follows: 1. The subjects in this study got a mean of 26.47±5.14 in self-esteem out of 10 to 40 possible points. Their scores ranged from a low of 11 to a high of 40. As for factors to influence self-esteem, physical health, educational level, life satisfaction level and religion made a significant difference to that. 2. Their mental health collective average was 65.29±11.08 out of possible 17 to 85 points. Their scores ranged from a low of 38 to a high of 85. Concerning factors to affect mental health, mental health was significantly different according to physical health, educational level, living standard, type of housing, life satisfaction level and religion. 3. Regarding the correlation of their faith in Christianity to self-esteem and mental health, the influence of Christianity(r=0.6737, p=0.0001) was bigger than that of total sample(r=0.4588, p=0.0001) and other religions (r=0.2962, p=0.0121). The Christianity had a very significantly positive correlation to them. The above-mentioned findings illustrated that Christianity was correlated to self-esteem and mental health at a very significant level.
