    This paper describes some design techniques for an 8-bit 1G samples/s ADC(analog converter). To achieve low power conumption and a high conversion rate, the proposed ADC adopts a pipelined ADC scheme with an open loop circuit design technique[1]. And to achieve an 1 GHz smpling rate operation, an interleaving technique with sharing common blocks such as a regerence string, bias blocks, interpolation amplifiers and pre-amplifiers in comparators, is used, which enables the low power consumption and small active area. At an 1 GHz smpling rate, simulation results show that the power consumption is 400mW including digital logic with a power supply of 1.8V and the SNDR of 45dB with input frequency of 207MHz. The proposed ADC was designed with a 0.18um 6-Metal 1-Poly CMOS process and occupies an active area of 800um x 950um. The prototype device is now under fabrication.
