    This paper presents a FIR band pass filter employed in a power line communication transceiver. Since the power line network is not an ideal media for communications, it has many kinds of distributing signals such as noise. The impulse noise especially is the most difficult obstacle to overcome in power line communications. In order to design a proper filter in the application, the signal and noise spectrum in channels are measured and DSP theory is applied. Consequently, the properly designed filter can reject unwanted noise - impulse, Gaussian, tonal, and so on. We also proposed techniques for real time processing and small size implementation. The proposed digital filter is verified with a mathematical tool and implemented with the HDL (Hardware Description Language) and synthesized into an optimized logic.
