In this study, electrokinetic/iron wall-enhanced process was investigated respectively to remediate TCE-contaminated soil and nitrate-contaminated soil. Column experiments were carried out to observe the reduction of TCE and nitrate. With only electrokinetics, 41.4% of nitrate-nitrogen was transformed. The amount of transformed nitrate-nitrogen increased when an iron and sand mixture wall was placed, and 95% of nitrate-nitrogen was transformed. The mass recovery for EKT was calculated 80.2% of the total initial mass in soil specimen. In case of EKTF, the mass recovery was calculated 18.3%. If the condition of EKTF is similar to EKT except for the installation of iron wall, it is expected that 61.9% of TCE was be reduced by zero-valent iron. This study shows that electrokinetic/iron-enhanced process can be used efficiently for in-situ remediation of nitrate-contaminated or TCE-contaminated soil.
