    Biomass such as saw dust, paper sludge, agricultural and industrial wastes has been an important renewable alternative resource of fossil fuel. Biomass can be changed into alternative energy by incineration, thermochemical and biological method. However direct incineration has an environmental pollution problem because of generation of sulfur and nitrogen compounds during incineration. Biological method to use microorganism has a rate problem. Its reaction is very slow. Thermochemical conversion of biomass can be divided into pyrolysis, liquefaction, gasification and combustion. Saw dust, the main component is lignin, is reacted under solid acid catalyst(ZSM-5, γ-Al_(2)O_(3)) at different reaction conditions. The influences of several parameters such as catalyst species, relationship of catalyst amount, effect of mixing method in reactant and catalyst, effect of pyrolysis temperature, effect of residence time, effect of hydrogen addition, effect of steam & methanol. Paper sludge, the main component is cellulose, is reacted under the nickel catalyst(LaNiO_(3), Ni/MgO, Ni/Al_(2)O_(3)) at different reaction conditions. The influences of several parameters such as pyrolysis temperature, effect of catalyst & support(MgO, Al_(2)O_(3)), effect of steam.
