    This study is regarding visual resources in the textbooks based on the 2007 revised national curriculum, particularly in the chemistry section of the 9th grade science textbooks. The visual resources are categorized according to their format and function, and each category's frequency in the textbook is analyzed, followed by more detailed analysis on types of visual resources of different functions. Finally, an investigation on the students' perception of visual resources is carried out. The results are as follows: The most frequent format of visual resources is photograph, whereas their most frequent function is informative. More visual resources were provided in the higher grades. In the motivational/informative categories of function, photographs was the most frequent type. In the procedural, results categories, pictures of the instruments, and tables were the most frequently used respectively. According to the investigation on the students' perception of visual resources, the type of visual resource which is the most effective for motivation is cartoons depicting natural phenomena; for instruction on procedures, pictures of both instruments and actual conduct of experiment; for information, multiple types of visual resources(for which students choose 'others'); for results, graphs(presented after experiment) and incomplete tables and graphs to work on.
