    The sewage treatment facility at the Highway service area is urgently needed to be converted to the advanced treatment plant by applying the discharge water quality standard for the 50㎥/day or more, which includes the nitrogen, phosphate and E. Colli now by the unification of Sewage Laws. In this study, to find the improved process for the advanced treatment of the sewage treatment facilities in the Highway service areas, the efficiency of the process was evaluated by selecting 3 Highway service areas (2 service areas in the Namhae Highway: Service Area A and B, and 1 service area in Gyeongbu Highway: Service Area C) for the representative auxiliary process systems currently applied (A2O+residual nitrogen removal process (RPS), A2O+residual nitrogen removal process (SOD) and MBR+residual nitrogen removal process (SOD)), and in the results of evaluating the efficiency of process and removal through the analysis of the water quality characteristics in each reactor, following conclusions were obtained. In the sewage treatment facilities of the Service Area A in the Namhae Highway being operated with A2O+residual nitrogen removal process (RPS), the actual concentration of inflow water quality is lower than the designed water quality and as the discharge water quality is TBOD5 of 4.05 mg/L, T-N of 22.36mg/L, T-P of 1.69mg/L, and TSS of 10.11mg/L, T-N and TSS represented to exceed the discharge water quality standard. Therefore, the ratio between the nitrogen and organic matters in the inflow water is very important in eliminating T-N stably and if the C/N ratio is 3.0 or less, The change of the process is needed such as injection of external carbon source required for denitrification. And to comply with TSS of 10mg/L in the discharge water quality standard, it is deemed to consider installing the filtration facilities in front of the disinfecting chamber. In the sewage treatment facilities of the Service Area B in Namhea Highway being operated with A2O+residual nitrogen removal process (SOD), the concentration of the actual water quality is flown in similar to the designed water quality and the discharge water quality is satisfied the discharge water quality standard. the carbon source of 3.8 flowed in higher than the designed C/N ratio (3) has worked on the denitrification mechanism in the anaerobic tank and the T-N treatment efficiency of the desulfurization and denitrification reactor for residual nitrogen removal represented 38.3%. In the sewage treatment facilities of the Service Area C in Gyeongbu Highway being operated with MBR+residual nitrogen removal and phosphorus removal process (SOD, pressure injuries), the concentration of the actual water quality is flown in similar to the designed water quality and the discharge water quality is satisfied the discharge water quality standard.The carbone source flowed in similar to the designed inflow C/N ratio has worked on the denitrification mechanism in the anaerobic tank. The T-N treatment efficiency of the desulfurization and denitrification reactor for residual nitrogen removal represented 44.6% and the T-P treatmnt efficiency of the pressure flotation reactor for residual phosphate removal represented 45.6%. In the service area having diverse C/N ratio characteristics and C/N ratio of 3 or less in the inflow water, the external carbone source is deemed to be necessary to remove nitrogen stably and the constant management is deemed to be needed in order to draw operating factors met the changes in the rate of inflow of the sewage during the day and night of weekend, weekday and peak season in each treatment facilities and changes in the inflow concentration. T-N ingredients flowed into the sewage treatment facilities of the service area mostly is produced from the cleaning agents used in the restaurants at the service area and the measures to reduce the volume is deemed to be necessary. The cost incurred in the sewage treatment facilities is deemed to reduced by reducing the T-N volume produced through the use of the natural and eco-friendly cleaning agents and the reduction of cleaning agents use.
