The purpose of this research is to compare and analyze the advanced speed of ships with different rudder rotational velocity in wavy condition by using a simulation. The commercial simulation tool named AQWA is used to develop the simulation of ship which have 3 degree of freedom. The nonlinear hydrodynamic force acting on hull, the propeller thrust and the rudder force are calculated by the additional subroutine which interlock with the commercial simulation tool, and the regular wave is used as the source of the external force for the simulation. The advanced speed of ships depending on the rudder rotational velocity is analyzed after the autopilot simulations. The conclusion which is obtained from this research can be summarized as follows. 1. The simulation with the equations of motion in the 3 degree of freedom in the commercial simulation tool named AQWA is developed with a subroutine which calculates the nonlinear hydrodynamic force acting on hull, the propeller thrust and the rudder force. 2. The effect of the rudder rotational velocity to the advanced speed in the autopilot simulations is analyzed through the significant rudder angle, the significant heading angle and the drag force of rudder 3. The reduction of the advanced speed in wavy condition can be decreased by decreasing the rudder rotational velocity
