    Korea is under pressure to open its agricultural markets. The effects of the opening of the agricultural market increase rapidly agricultural imports and domestic production. This brings about a dip in the price of farm products and reduces income. Government is pushing to export agricultural product. The purpose of this study is to find out the development strategies of paprika industry by investigating the production, domestic consumption and export of paprika, and provide fundamental information for designing policy concerning paprika industry. Data were collected using a questionnaire survey in 220 Korea producers of paprika. A total of 111 useable questionnaires were received, a response rate of 50.45%. The major results of this study are as follows. First, since paprika acres expand, the amount of paprika production will be forecast to increase. This problem results in lower price and profitability. Because of the high competition in paprika industry, many farmers want to produce other crops. In this case, investment costs would be sunk cost. Therefore, the related agencies(Korean paprika growers association, Korea agro-fisheries and food trade corporation and government) are involved to find a reliable supply adjustment scheme. Second, the Paprika industry is one of the corps which have been developed through export. Thus, when the marketing and consumption of paprika needs to smoothly linked based on stable production, the paprika industry could be developed. Producers are to be organized so as for the producers' organization to expand both domestic and foreign markets, control supply and demand of paprika, and strengthen the competitiveness of paprika industry. Third, Korean paprika is preferred by Japan buyers since it has comparative advantage in terms of price and quality. For expanding the export of paprika toward Japan market, price should be lowered. Especially, the most of paprika produced in Korea exported to Japan. Institutional support is needed for export paprika to other countries. To do this, the farmers, Korean paprika growers association and government efforts to work together to enable the export activation.
