    The relevance between volume and surface area of a sphere is a very useful theme which can make us experience analogical thinking which has been empathized as a major tool for mathematical discovery. Therefore, in this study, 7 kinds of textbooks were compared and analyzed to identify with what materials were applied to identify volume and surface area of a sphere to improve mathematical thinking ability. And targeting gifted students, for the relevance between volume and surface area of a sphere, they were made to experience analogical thinking. Such procedures were analyzed and the features for gifted students' analogical thinking were identified. The results from the study are summarized as follows. First, a lot of knowledge was reminded in the course of analogical thinking for gifted students. The learned details were systemized. Second, gifted students tended to think, focusing on superficial features for the first time in the middle of analogical thinking. Third, gifted students couldn't think out higher-order relation. There were trial and errors in various steps. Without discussion with students and arbitrage with teachers, to analogize higher-order relation was difficult. Fourth, gifted students tended to emphasize algebraic interpretation. Finally, as a result of survey, gifted students were very interested in the way of thinking, analogical thinking. In order to satisfy the desires of gifted students and foster their creativity, analogical thinking needs to be generalized. Follow-up studies on it are also required.
