Background: High volumes of polyethylene glycol-based solutions (PEG) are effective as bowel preparation for colonoscopy. However, most patients complain about the massive volume and taste. Recently, a probiotics mixture was tried for evacuation disorders and pretreatment as a bowel preparation. Aim: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy, acceptability and patient's convenience for bowel cleansing solutions in healthy screening colonoscopy. Methods: This study was a single blind randomized controlled comparative study with a conventional PEG solution(ColonlyteR) and probiotics solution(Lactosclean-YR). A total of 445 healthy volunteers were randomly assigned to receive 4 liters PEG(group 1, n=220), 2 liters water+200ml probiotics solution(group 2, n=225). The quality of bowel cleansing, patient's convenience, and adverse effects were compared between groups. A questionnaire was used for evaluation of patients' experiences and qualities of bowel cleansing were scaled using Ottawa's scale system. Results: Satisfactory results (under 11 scale in Ottawa score) were achieved in 342 patients(88.83%), 91.58%(n=174) in the PEG group compared to 86.15%(n=168) in the Probiotics group (p=0.091). No significant result was observed for the polyp detection rate and adenoma detection rate(p=0.298, p=0.108) and, on the patients' experience questionnaire, probiotics solution was more preferred for the next future examination(probiotics 90.26% vs PEG 61.58%, p
