    Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype that lacks expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2). It has been reported that tropomyosin-related kinase C (TrkC) is elevated in various human cancers including TNBCs and increased TrkC levels have been implicated in the proliferation, survival, invasion and metastatic capability of human cancers. However, the mechanism underlying TrkC function in TNBC tumorigenesis remains unclear. In this report, we show that TrkC increases the level of Snail, transcription factor which is a master regulator of EMT-related signaling molecules. Snail activation by TrkC is mediated through a PI3K signaling molecule. These results suggest that an important role of the TrkC-associated EMT molecular network in the tumorigenic progression of TNBCs.
