An Effects of Partnership between Large and Small & Medium Enterprises on Business Performance

    For a sustainable development, it is necessary for small & medium enterprises to manage cooperative relationship with large enterprises. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between partnership factors, competitiveness of SME and performance. To achieve the goal of this study, it was accomplished to build theoretical grounds based on precedent studies and to examine the empirical evidences through statistical methods. In the empirical part of the study, we use technology collaboration performance, business process performance, financial performance as dependent variables. Independent variables were partnership factors, which were information sharing, profit sharing, and risk sharing. The mediating variable was competitiveness of SMEs, and moderating variable was trust between large enterprises and SMEs. Questionnaires were constructed based on the study model and hypothesis. For the empirical findings, we analyze questionnaire data through factorial analysis, reliability analysis and regression analysis by utilizing SPSS for windows. The outcomes are as follows. First, when it comes to the relations between partnership factors and competitiveness of SMEs, information sharing, profit sharing, risk sharing were found to have a significant relation with competitiveness of SMEs. Also, three sharing activities had positive impact on collaboration performance, business process performance and financial performance. Second, when it comes to the mediating effects of competitiveness of SMEs, competitiveness has mediating effects on information sharing, profit sharing, risk sharing and performance. Third, this study examined the moderating effects of trust. Trust moderated the effects of information sharing on competitiveness of SMEs. Based on the research outcomes, it can be concluded that a successful partnership could conduct a successful performance through strengthening competitiveness. And it should be considered that the indirect effect of information, profit, risk sharing through competitiveness. This study was limited because of representativeness of the sample, feasibility of variable measurement, insincerity of respondents, prejudice of respondents cased by uncertainty. Future comparative studies among different industries and sizes should also be carried out. Key words: partnership, information sharing, profit sharing, risk sharing, trust, business performance
