A Study on the Process Improvement For An Auto Parts Production Company

The method of line balancing, which reasonably assigns processes, is applied to and consistently used by a number of companies, from traditional IE to the modern days. While a number of theories are overwhelmingly published regarding the enhancement of processes, line balancing, which is the most traditional and simplest, keeps being applied to the field and proves its efficiency. However, the majority of companies still do not have an established concept of operation standardization which makes it hard to proceed their own process improvement campaign or to predict the output. A motor parts manufacturer, which is the subject of application in this study, produces a product called Differential Assembly. It is hard to understand standard working hours or work elements because the current assembly lines are designed by a rule of thumb. Therefore, this study attempts to standardize the working process by understanding the standard working hours and work elements, and to improve the process by applying the line balancing method.
