    The Effect of the Philosophical research group activity by using picture books on the same age group's problem solving skills KIM YUN- JA Department of Early Childhood Education Graduate School of Education Hankuk University of Foreign Studies This thesis aims to investigate the effect of the philosophical research group activity by using a picture book, on the problem solving skills of the same age group. With this aim, this study established the following research questions. 1. What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on the problem solving skills of the same age group? 2. What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on sub-factors of the problem solving skills of the same age group? 2-1.What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on the dilemma? 2-2.What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on the disturbance of the same age group? 2-3. What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on the rejection of the same age group? 2-4. What is the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book, on the bullying of the same age group? Twenty children of Y kindergarten and another twenty children from a neighboring kindergarten participated in the research. The children were divided into two groups; an experiment group and a controlled group. The research was done in the order of preliminary test, experiment and posttest. In order to find out the effect of the philosophical research group activity by using a picture book on the same age group, 14times of philosophical research group activity was done from the second week of March 2014 to the second week of May 2014, excluding holidays. The tool that was used in this research was Webster-Strattron's Wally Problem Solvintest,(1990b: Webster-Strattron & Hammond, 1997). The test was adapted and edited for the aim of this project and preliminary test was undertaken. Through this process, some contents were adjusted and a thesis by Seri Kim, 2013 was reused. In order to find out the effect of the philosophical research group activity using a picture book on the same age group's problem solving skills, SPSS 18.0 controlled the result of the preliminary inspection and ANCOVA about posttest was carried out. The summary of this research is as follows. First, the philosophical group activity using a picture book influenced on the problem solving skills of the same age group. Second, the philosophical group activity using a picture book influenced on sub-factors of the problem solving skills of the same age group. Third, the philosophical group activity using a picture book improved the dilemma, which is the subgroup of the problem solving skills of the same age group, but a conspicuous difference couldn't be seen. Fourth, the philosophical group activity using a picture book meaningfully influenced the disturbance of the same age group, which is the subgroup of the problem solving skills of the same age group. Fifth, the philosophical group activity using a picture book meaningfully influenced the rejection of the same age group, which is the subgroup of the problem solving skills of the same age group. Sixth, the philosophical group activity using a picture book meaningfully influenced the bullying of the same age group, which is the subgroup of the problem solving skills of the same age group. In conclusion, the philosophical research group activity by using a picture book was confirmed to be effective on the problem solving skills of the same age group. Therefore, henceforth be used as the teaching method for the philosophical research group activities using the reference of teachers' picture books.
