    The Effect of Empathic Ability and Resilience on Interpersonal Relationship of High School Students CHANG SUKHEE Department of Counselling Psychology The Graduate School of Education Hankuk University of Foreign Studies The purpose of this study is to investigate how do the empathic abilities and resilience affect on the interpersonal relationships for high school students. For this study, a survey was responded by 505 high school students in Ansan city. The research tools consist of having point of view, imagining, empathic interests from Davis(1980)'s IRI and a measurement of empathic ability by Bryant(1982) and a criterion of resilience by Kim, Joo Hwan(2009), which was developed and carried into for middle, high and college students in Korea. Besides, Relationship Change Scale by Schlein and Guerney was used to suit the occasion of high school students in Korea. To analyze the main effects of the study, frequency analysis and correlation analysis, regression analysis in SPSS 20.0 program were used. The main results of the study are as follows. First, the empathic abilities significantly affected on interpersonal relationships of high school students. These results suggest that the higher high school students' empathic abilities are, the more they are correlated to their interpersonal relationships. As sub factors, having point of view, and empathic abilities and personal agony meaningfully affected on interpersonal relationships, but imagining showed a lower effect on interpersonal relationships. Empathic interests are the highest factors on interpersonal relationships, which were followed by personal agony and having point of view. Second, the resilience considerably affected on interpersonal relationships of high school students. These results suggest that the higher high school students' resilience is, the more it is correlated to their interpersonal relationships. The results of analyzing field relative influence of recovery resilience are as follows. Controling impulse, optimism and interpersonal relationships were statistically significant. Sociality had the greatest impact on interpersonal relationships, which was followed by optimism and controling impulse. Third, both the empathic abilities and resilience of high school students significantly affected on interpersonal relationships. The resilience showed a bigger contributiveness on interpersonal relationships than the empathic abilities. The results of this study indicates that how important empathic abilities and recovery resilience are to the interpersonal relationships of high school students. Thus, educators can suggest a solution to solve a difficult problem of having relationships between high school students by using of this research finding.
