    In Korea, the shortage of electricity has emerged as a serious problem in recent years. In order to solve this problem, it is far more important to figure out determinants of the electricity demand and calculate the magnitude of their impact, in other words, to estimate the electricity demand equation. This paper presents an empirical analysis on residential demand for electricity in Korea based on the data set composed 138 of 231 Korean administrative districts for the period 2004-2012. We adopt a dynamic partial adjustment model, and two-step system GMM estimator is employed to estimate the demand equation for electricity. In this paper, this study also focuses on the impact of changes in lifestyle such as changes of population structure or a change of residence style, which has rarely been considered in previous literatures, on electricity consumption. The estimation results indicate that Korean residential electricity demand is inelastic to both of the price and income, CDD have a positive effect on the electricity consumption, and the average age of a region has a U-shape relation with the electricity consumption. The results also show that there exists a U-shape relation between the height of the buildings and the electricity consumption. We find that the increase of high-rise residential buildings can be among the factors that increase the consumption of electricity
