Three dimensional simulation of high severity internally finned cracking coils for olefins production
A three-dimensional reactor model was used in the simulation of thermal cracking in internally finned tubes. The model was validated against the heating of air in a tube with circular cross section. Results for propane cracking under industrial conditions were used to compare tubes with helicoidal and longitudinal fins. For both cases, an equal heat input was imposed. Coke production in the reactor was also simulated. Both types of tube lead to high coking rate due to the high internal tube skin temperature.
