특정목적의 영어학습을 위한 내용 중심의 언어교수법에 관한 연구
Content-based Instruction in ESP
This article proposes Content-based Instruction (CBI) as a more effective approach in the teaching of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) to meet current demands of using English in a global context. As an alternative Business English course for the students of international office management department, CBI is used in ESP(English for Specific Purposes) university setting. Some characteristics and issues of Content-based Instruction is explored and its implications to ESP curriculum development is also included. Yet, if successful Content-based Instruction is to be realized, careful planning and coordination of the entire curriculum should be arranged to the learner"s needs. In-class implications and course evaluation for CEI is also included for further discussions. In this study, CEI is recommended for an effective ESP curriculum design.
