Binding Theory and PRO
The purpose of this paper is to consider the grammatical properties of PRO in relation to binding theory. Chapter 2 is to examine the existence or occurring of PRO in terms of the agreement relation between PRO and predictive complements (reflexive pronoun, reciprocal pronoun, predictive NP) in the infinitive clause. Chapter 3 is to argue the binary properties (anaphor, pronoun) of PRO in the infinitive and gerundive clause on the basis of binding theory. When PRO is sharing both the features of an anaphor and a pronoun in the same sentence, it is argued that an anaphor is preferable to a pronoun. Chapter 4 is to discuss the syntactic problems of the government and case assignment of PRO in the infinitive clause. PRO is always ungoverned because of having no governing category, therefore it has no case, and s-bar is an absolute barrier about government and case of PRO.
