Reconstructing Pearl Buck in America and China
Pearl Buck was one of the most renowned and controversial figures to influence American and Chinese cultural and literary history, and yet she remains one of the least studied. Although she is best known as a winner of the Nobel prize she led a career that extended well deep into the public sphere. She was active in the American civil rights and women"s rights movements. She was an outspoken advocate of racial understanding as a cultural ambassador between the United States and China at a time when East and West were at once suspicious and deeply ignorant of each other. Now we are restoring to be visible in a dual portrait of her, a figure greater than history between America and China.
