문학의 이데올로기(Ideology) 비판양식
The Mode of Ideology Critique in Literature
Often, literary works are represented as merely reproducing the dominant ideology of the given period. However, numerous Marxists, despite their awareness of the thorough permeation of ideology in both conscious and unconscious domains of everyday life, succeed in finding various escape routes from dominant ideologies. Literature is viewed as one of the important escape routes. Even such orthodox Marxists as Engels and Lukacs endorse this position. Macherey, who provides the most important tool for literary analysis in Marxism, maintains that literature has a curious way of revealing the limitations of the ideology while embodying the very ideology through literary production. It is often through such aesthetic devices as plot construction or image deployment that the limitations are revealed. His theory is productively applied to the analysis of various literary texts by such critics as Jameson and Said, who show similar tendency as Adorno in their valuation of aesthetic devices as a fit site of ideological criticism in a literary work. The moral and aesthetic views on the function of literature, which has a long history of polarized opposition, seem to converge in contemporary Western Marxism.
