The Modernity in Yi Sang"s Literature : "Medicine-Body-Individual"
This study focuses on the modernity in Yi Sang"s works which are examined here from a comparative perspective with 'Occidental modernity'. This research is grounded on the triple theme of 'medicine-body-individual'. Through an inter-relationship constructed among these three themes or problems, Yi Sang"s poems (and short stories) not only expose within itself several aspects of modernity, but also indicate an aspect of 'post-modernity' as a will to overcome modernity and reality. The themes of 'medicine-body-individual' all linked together in Yi Sang"s literature are also the basis of Occidental modernity, which starts from science"s evolution ; a new conception of body and an awareness of 'myself'. On the other hand, that subject can be a key figure which allows us to create a Homo-Phantastikos"s world where it"s possible to surmount all of modernity and reality. This analysis reveals that the structure, 'medicine-body-individual', is the departure point in Yi Sang"s literature, but also the objective to over-come. Overall, we can see that modern aspects that Yi Sang receives from Occidental modernity become Yi Sang"s modernity.
