    The optical properties and the local electromagnetic field enhancement of a multilayer structure with square lattice nanohole arrays in Au-SiO 2 -Au multilayer films are numerically studied using finite-difference time domain method. Simulation results demonstrate that the multiple surface plasmons (SP) resonances consist of SP on the air/Au interface, SiO 2 /Au interfaces (the middle layers), Au/SiO 2 interface (the lower layer) and coupling modes on the Au film and Au film. We investigated some of structure parameters that influence the SP resonances of the multilayer nanostructure. Adjustment of the thickness of SiO 2 film (H 2 ), the diameter ? of circular nanoholes, the periods (C) of square lattice and the thickness of Au film (H 1 ) could change the absorption intensity and the SP resonances. The simulation of the electromagnetic field distributions shows that the location of the local electromagnetic field enhancement can specify the different SP resonances patterns. Dipole, quadrupole, and twelve-pole SP resonances modes can be found in the multilayer nanostructure. These studies are important for applications using multiple SP resonances.

    This paper presents a novel geometric calibration method for focused light field camera to trace the rays of flame radiance and to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3-D) temperature distribution of a flame. A calibration model is developed to calculate the corner points and their projections of the focused light field camera. The characteristics of matching main lens and microlens f-numbers are used as an additional constrains for the calibration. Geometric parameters of the focused light field camera are then achieved using Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Total focused images in which all the points are in focus, are utilized to validate the proposed calibration method. Calibration results are presented and discussed in details. The maximum mean relative error of the calibration is found less than 0.13%, indicating that the proposed method is capable of calibrating the focused light field camera successfully. The parameters obtained by the calibration are then utilized to trace the rays of flame radiance. A least square QR-factorization algorithm with Plank's radiation law is used to reconstruct the 3-D temperature distribution of a flame. Experiments were carried out on an ethylene air fired combustion test rig to reconstruct the temperature distribution of flames. The flame temperature obtained by the proposed method is then compared with that obtained by using high-precision thermocouple. The difference between the two measurements was found no greater than 6.7%. Experimental results demonstrated that the proposed calibration method and the applied measurement technique perform well in the reconstruction of the flame temperature.

    The characteristics of a two-lens slit spatial filtering system on image relay and spatial filtering are discussed with detailed theoretical calculation and numerical simulation. The slit spatial filter can be used as the cavity spatial filter in large laser systems, such as National Ignition Facility, which can significantly decrease the focal intensity in cavity spatial filter and suppress or even avoid the pinhole (slit) closure while keeping the output power and beam quality. Additionally, the overall length of the cavity spatial filter can be greatly reduced with the use of the two-lens slit spatial filter.

    초록

    An improved polygon-based method is proposed for subwavelength pixel pitch computer generated holograms (CGHs). By employing the basic principle of image-plane holograms, and by optimizing the parameters, objects are reconstructed with high quality from the CGHs whose pixel pitch is smaller than wavelength. It is believed that the proposed method is potentially promising for future large viewing angle holographic 3D displays.

    A novel m-QAM Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) Single Sideband (SSB) architecture is proposed for centralized light source (CLS) bidirectional Radio over Fiber (RoF) - Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) - Passive Optical Network (PON). In bidirectional transmission with carrier reuse over the single fiber, the Rayleigh Backscattering (RB) noise and reflection (RE) interferences from optical components can seriously deteriorate the transmission performance of the fiber optic systems. These interferometric noises can be mitigated by utilizing the optical modulation schemes at the Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Unit (ONU) such that the spectral overlap between the optical data spectrum and the RB and RE noise is minimum. A mathematical model is developed for the proposed architecture to accurately measure the performance of the transmission system and also to analyze the effect of interferometric noise caused by the RB and RE. The model takes into the account the different modulation schemes employed at the OLT and the ONU using a Mach Zehnder Modulator (MZM), the optical launch power and the bit-rates of the downstream and upstream signals, the gain of the amplifiers at the OLT and the ONU, the RB-RE noise, chromatic dispersion of the single mode fiber and optical filter responses. In addition, the model analyzes all the components of the RB-RE noise such as carrier RB, signal RB, carrier RE and signal RE, thus providing the complete representation of all the physical phenomena involved. An optical m-QAM OFDM SSB signal acts as a test signal to validate the model which provides excellent agreement with simulation results. The SSB modulation technique using the MZM at the OLT and the ONU differs in the data transmission technique that takes place through the first-order higher and the lower optical sideband respectively. This spectral gap between the downstream and upstream signals reduces the effect of Rayleigh backscattering and discrete reflections.

    Existing commercial three dimensional (3D) display technologies for computer screens, such as stereoscopic and auto-stereoscopic methods, are based on binocular parallax theory. Due to the inherent accommodation-convergence conflict, (auto-) stereoscopic displays are always suffering the visual fatigue problem. Through sequentially gating two different segments of each eye's aperture of the viewer and refreshing the display contents simultaneously, a 3D display based on Super Multi-view technology for the computer screen is proposed in this paper, which is free from the accommodation-convergence conflict. Employing custom liquid-crystal-valve array for each eye, a proof-of-concept prototype is set up and a 3D display free from accommodation-convergence conflict gets demonstrated.

    By exploiting the radiative coupling between the electromagnetic field scattered by individual Si dimer and the collective wave diffracted (Rayleigh Anomalies) in the plane of Si dimers array, optical resonance with extremely narrow linewidth is achieved, accompanied with dramatic enhancement of electric field in the gap of the dimer. We analyze the optical properties of Si dimers array by decomposing it into three fundamental sub-systems. Theoretical investigation employing the coupled dipole approximation is complemented with numerical simulations. The result shows that polarization angle has significant influence on the orientation of the field scattered by individual Si dimer, which determines the efficiency of radiative coupling and further impacts on the electric field enhancement. Moreover, we explore the feasibility of application in refractive sensing. It is shown that the figure of merit value for the proposed system of Si dimers array is as high as 306. The Si dimers array that takes advantage of multiple coupling creates new possibility to implement field-enhanced spectroscopy and refractive sensing with ultra-high sensitivity.

    Nanosecond pulse laser was used to study nickel-based alloy drilling and compare processing results of microholes in air environment and water environment. Through analysis and comparison, it's found that environmental medium had obvious influence on morphology of laser drilling. High-speed camera was used to shoot plasma morphology during laser drilling process, theoretical formula was used to calculate boundary dimension of plasma and shock wave velocity, and finally parameters were substituted into computational fluid dynamics simulation software to obtain solutions. Obtained analysis results could intuitively explain different morphological features and forming reasons between laser drilling in air environment and water environment in the experiment from angle of plasma shock waves. By comparing simulation results and experimental results, it could help to get an understanding of formation mechanism of microhole morphology, thus providing basis for further improving process optimization of laser drilling quality.

    We present a three-dimensional surface measurement system using imaging fiber endoscope and the measurement is based on the focus technique in uniaxial configuration. The surface height variation of the sample is retrieved by taking into account the contrast modulation change obtained from a projected fringe pattern on the sample. The technique takes into account the defocus change of the fringe pattern due to the height variation of the sample and by a Gaussian fitting process the height reconstruction can be retrieved. A baseline signal procedure was implemented to remove back reflection light coming from the two fiber-surfaces (inlet and outlet) and also a Fourier transform filter was used to remove the pixelated appearance of the images. The depth range of the system is 1.1mm and a lateral range of 2mm by 2mm. The novelties of the implementation are that the system uses the same imaging fiber as illumination and measurement and offers the advantage of the transportability to the measurement to a confined space having potential application on medical or industrial endoscopes systems. We demonstrate the technique by showing the surface profile of a measured object.

    With the research focus of subaperture stitching interferometry shifting from flat wavefronts to aspheric ones, a variety of algorithms for stitching optimization have been proposed. We try to category and compare the algorithms in this paper by their modeling of misalignment-induced subaperture aberrations which are of low orders. A simple way is to relate the aberrations to misalignment by linear approximation with small angle assumption. But it can not exactly model the induced aberrations of aspheres. In general, the induced aberrations can be fitted to free polynomials and then removed from subaperture measurements. However, it is at the risk of mixing up the surface error and the induced aberrations. The misalignment actually introduces different terms of aberrations with certain proportions. The interrelation is then determined through analytical modeling or ray tracing. The analytical model-based algorithm and the ray tracing-based algorithm both are tedious, aperture shape-related and surface type-specific. While the configuration space-based algorithm we proposed numerically calculates the surface height change under rigid body transformation, it is generally applicable to various surface types and different aperture shapes. Simulations and experiments are presented to compare the stitching results when different algorithms are applied to null cylindrical subapertures measured with a computer generated hologram. The configuration space-based algorithm shows superior flexibility and accuracy.
