  4. [해외논문]   The influence of office layout features on employee perception of organizational culture   SSCI

Abstract Office layout features and organizational culture have independently been shown to influence employee job satisfaction; however, little is known about whether office layout influences organizational culture. This study had two aims. The first was to investigate the association between office layout and organizational culture. The second was to investigate whether organizational culture mediates the relationship between office layout and job satisfaction. A total of 202 Australian workers completed an online survey. Structural equation modelling revealed that office layout features were significantly and positively associated with ratings of organizational culture. Additionally, culture ratings were shown to mediate the relationship between the office layout features and job satisfaction. These findings suggest that perceptions of office layout can influence employees’ perceptions of the organizational culture and important employee attitudes. Highlights Office layout features were significantly and positively associated with ratings of organizational culture. Organizational culture ratings were shown to mediate the relationship between the office layout features and job satisfaction. The findings suggest that perceptions of office layout can influence employees' perceptions of the organizational culture.

  5. [해외논문]   Why young people do things for the environment: The role of parenting for adolescents' motivation to engage in pro-environmental behaviour   SSCI

Grønhøj, Alice (Corresponding author.) , Thøgersen, John
    Journal of environmental psychology v.54 ,pp. 11 - 19 , 2017 , 0272-4944 ,

    초록

Abstract It is well documented that parents' behaviour and family norms exert a significant influence on young people's pro-environmental attitudes and behaviour. But what is the role of parenting styles in this connection? The present study addresses this question based on a matched sample of young people aged 18–20 (n = 448) and one parent (n = 448), each completing an online questionnaire that included the Motivation Toward the Environment Scale, Perception of Parenting Styles Scale, and questions about perceived (by youth) parental and self-reported (by youth and parent) pro-environmental behaviours. We find that young people display less internalized motivation to ‘do things for the environment’ than their parents, but that their motivation to act in pro-environmental ways is rooted in family descriptive norms, parents' internalized motivation to act pro-environmentally, and the autonomy-supporting parenting style and structure prevalent in the home. Highlights The focus is on parenting and adolescents' pro-environmental motivation. Adolescents' pro-environmental behaviour relates to their internalized motivation. Adolescents display less internalized motivation than their parents. Family norms, parents' motivation, parenting style and structure are important. The importance of ‘parenting for sustainability’ is highlighted.

  6. [해외논문]   Time grows on trees: The effect of nature settings on time perception   SSCI

Abstract We examined whether nature exposure may be related to time perception. When estimating the length of time spent in nature vs. an urban environment, does the subjective estimate of experience duration change depending on the setting? We present evidence that an experience in nature can feel longer than the same experience in a man-made environment, independent of actual duration. Participants overestimated the duration of a walk if this walk took them through a nature setting but perceived an equally long walk through an urban setting accurately. The nature walk also resulted in a marked improvement in mood and reduction in stress compared to the urban walk. In sum, our studies suggest that nature exposure can slow down time perception. Highlights Time spent on a walk in a nature setting was overestimated compared to actual time. Time spent on a walk in an urban setting was estimated accurately. Time felt slower in nature than in man-made settings. Taking a walk in nature (vs. urban setting) increased mood, decreased stress.

Abstract Although research suggests parents influence the development of their children's environmental attitudes (EA) and behaviors (EB), the possible impact of other socialization agents is largely unknown. This article takes a closer look at how parents and friends may shape 9 to 13 year-olds’ EA and EB. Parents' EA and EB were registered via questionnaires and children's reported their EA and EB through computer-based, child-friendly questionnaires. Participants' responses were matched with their best friend's. The results of a structural equation model showed that children's EA predicted their EB, and parents' and best friend's EB significantly predicted children's EB. Additionally, the effects of these two social agents on children's pro-environmentalism vary across gender and age. Girls were more sensitive to social agents than boys. Younger children were more strongly influenced by their parents than older ones. On the contrary, best friends had a stronger effect on older children. Highlights Effect of parents and best friends on children's reported environmentalism is studied. Parents' pro-environmental behavior (EB) was positively associated with children's EB. Best friend's EB was positively related to children's EB. Girls are more sensitive to their parents' and best friends' EB than boys. Effect of parents and best friends on environmentalism varied across ages.

  8. [해외논문]   The impact of earthquakes on the intention to move: Fight or flight?   SSCI

    Journal of environmental psychology v.54 ,pp. 38 - 49 , 2017 , 0272-4944 ,

    초록

Abstract The extraction of natural gas in the north of The Netherlands has led to soil subsidence and the occurrence of earthquakes. Residents worry about the safety of their families and the saleability of their dwelling and might want to move. The goal is to examine whether the earthquakes are related to the intention to move. A survey among residents in the area was carried out in 2015. The results show that the intention to move is influenced by age, education, household size, length of residence and attachment to the region. In addition, there is an effect of experience of earthquakes, which is mediated by psychological distress (anxiety, insecurity and concern). We conclude that the way in which residents handle the earthquake experience determines their intention to move, not the experience in itself. This provides opportunities to prevent out-migration by supporting residents and by providing them psychological care and security regarding the value and saleability of their dwellings. Highlights The impact of earthquakes on moving intention is mediated by psychological distress. Being young, high educated or single is related to a higher intention to move. Having weak or no attachment to the region is related to a higher intention to move. Higher residential satisfaction is related to a lower intention to move. Experience of earthquakes increases expectation of future damage to the dwelling.

  9. [해외논문]   The effect of group size on energy consumption by communal electricity users   SSCI

Carmi, Nurit (Corresponding author.) , Mostovoy, Noga

Abstract A communal electricity metering, where several consumers split their bill equally without being able to distinguish between their individual electricity consumption (EC), may create a social dilemma. Using this concept as a frame of reference, we hypothesized that increasing the group size of the consumers would increase EC. We increased the perceived group size of communal electricity users and monitored EC before, during and after the intervention. We also studied interpersonal trust, collectivism, self- and collective efficacy, ECrelated attitudes, pro-environmental self-identity and self-reported EC. We found that during the intervention phase, mean EC increased by 28.9% - an increase that disappeared right after the intervention was terminated. The only significant predictors of EC were efficacy and trust. Selfreported EC was not correlated to actual EC. The implications for conservation of electricity in a communal metering setting and the caution needed when using self-reports of environmental behavior are discussed. Highlights Electricity consumption (EC) in a communal metering and billing setting was studied. Increasing the perceived number of consumers increased EC and bill by almost 30%. Perceived group size, efficacy and interpersonal trust significantly affected EC. Actual EC did not significantly correlate with reported electricity saving behavior.

  10. [해외논문]   Predicting adolescents' recycling behavior among different big five personality types   SSCI

    초록

Abstract The present study investigates adolescents' self-reported recycling behavior, adopting a much-needed person-oriented approach. We found that adolescents that have different personality types approach recycling differently. Those who have more expressed adaptive and positive personality traits show more favorable attitudes toward recycling and engage in recycling more than those who have less adaptive traits. Investigating models based on the theory of planned behavior, we found slight differences in linear relationships between the model's variables among clusters. The results indicate that interventions should be targeted at the people that need them the most rather than the general population. Suggestions for future research and some practical points are presented. Highlights Adolescents with adaptive personalities are more environment-friendly. Adolescents with different personality types approach sustainability differently. Interventions that promote sustainability should be targeted towards people who have the most room for change.
