    초록

Abstract The average number of observations to signal (ANOS) is an important measure of the effectiveness of Bernoulli or Poisson cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts. Being able to quickly and accurately calculate an ANOS vector facilitates effective control chart design. We present a linear‐time method for computing the ANOS of Bernoulli CUSUM charts and generalize to Poisson CUSUM charts. This method overcomes computation challenges associated with previously existing methods.

Abstract Bayes‐conditional control chart has been used for monitoring the Weibull percentiles with complete data and type‐II censoring. Firstly, the Weibull data are transformed to the smallest extreme value (SEV) distribution. Secondly, the posterior median of quantiles is used as a monitoring statistic. Finally, a pivotal quantity based on the monitoring statistic with its conditional distribution function is derived for obtaining the control limits. This control chart is denoted as Shewhart‐SEV‐ Q˜Bp . In this study, we extend this work based on an exponential weighted moving average model named exponential weighted moving average‐SEV‐ Q˜Bp for monitoring the Weibull percentiles. We provide the statistical properties of the monitoring statistic. The average run length and the standard deviation of run lengths, computed by the integral equation approach, are used as performance measures. The results indicate that the proposed chart performs better than the Shewhart‐SEV‐ Q˜Bp . The breaking strength of carbon fibers is used to illustrate the application of the proposed control chart.

Abstract Control charts for variables are a reference tool for the statistical monitoring of a quantitative variable. However, there are processes in which the exact measurement of the variable is highly complex or costly. In these cases, one option is to base the monitoring on the number of units that are classified by a gauge as being above, below, or between a pair of reference limits. With this approach, the process control achieves the economy and agility of control by attributes. In the literature, one can find different alternatives to such schemes. In this paper, a more general formulation is introduced that subsumes many of the previously proposed schemes into a new control scheme by means of an additional parameter. Through a specially designed optimization procedure, it is possible to obtain the parameters that maximize the scheme's performance against a specified process shift.

Abstract Robust parameter design (RPD) aims to build product quality in the early design phase of product development by optimizing operating conditions of process parameters. A vast majority of the current RPD studies are based on an uncensored random sample from a process distribution. In reality, censoring schemes are widely implemented in lifetime testing, survival analysis, and reliability studies in which the value of a measurement is only partially known. However, there has been little work on the development of RPD when censored data are under study. To fill in the research gaps given practical needs, this paper proposes response surface–based RPD models that focus on survival times and hazard rate. Primary tools used in this paper include the Kaplan‐Meier estimator, Greenwood's formula, the Cox proportional hazards regression method, and a nonlinear programming method. The experimental modeling and optimization procedures are demonstrated through a numerical example. Various response surface–based RPD optimization models are proposed, and their RPD solutions are compared.

Abstract In this paper, we investigate a joint modeling method for hard failures where both degradation signals and time‐to‐event data are available. The mixed‐effects model is used to model degradation signals, and extended hazard model is used for the time‐to‐event data. The extended hazard is a general model which includes two well‐known hazard rate models, the Cox proportional hazards model and accelerated failure time model, as special cases. A two‐stage estimation approach is used to obtain model parameters, based on which remaining useful life for the in‐service unit can be predicted. The performance of the method is demonstrated through both simulation studies and a real case study.

Abstract Control charts are usually investigated under the assumption of known process parameters. In practice, however, the process parameters are rarely known and they have to be estimated from different Phase I data sets. The properties of control charts with estimated parameters are usually investigated with the unconditional average of the average run length. Control chart's performance is known to vary among practitioners because of the use of different Phase I data sets. Considering the between‐practitioners variability in control chart's performance, the standard deviation of the average run length is developed to reevaluate the properties of the synthetic X¯ chart with estimated parameters. Because of the limited amount of Phase I data in practice, the bootstrap method is used as a good adjustment technique for the synthetic X¯ chart's parameters.

Abstract The network theory is widely applied to improve the reliability of a complex electromechanical system. In this application, system reliability assessment with network theory has been paid a great deal of attention. Because of instrument malfunctions, staff omissions, imperfect inspection strategies, and complex structures, field failure data are often subject to interval censoring, making the holistic reliability assessment becomes a difficult task. Most traditional methods assume reliability of critical components or partial reliability as system reliability, which may cause a large bias in system reliability estimation. This paper proposes a novel method to evaluate and predict the system reliability of a complex electromechanical system subject to the insufficient fault data problem from a network perspective. First, the system modeling based on network theory is developed to describe the topology of a holistic system. Second, interval‐valued intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy number is proposed in order to solve insufficient data for single component. Then, a new measure—comprehensive reliability—that can reflect the reliability of nodes in combination with functional properties and topological properties, which are formulated by failure data and network model, respectively, is constructed for system reliability assessment. Subsequently, an improved system reliability model based on percolation theory is given in terms of comprehensive reliability of nodes. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a simulation and a real case study for traction system are implemented.

Abstract In this study, we propose a sequential method for hypothesis testing on the C pk process capability index. We compare the properties of the sequential test with the performances of nonsequential tests by performing an extensive simulation study. The results show that the proposed sequential test makes it possible to save a large amount of sample size as compared with the fixed sample size tests while maintaining the desired α ‐level and power.

    초록

Abstract With the market demands, the classification for highly reliable products becomes more and more significant. The degradation data can provide information about the degradation states and can be used to classify products to various classes according to the reliability attribute. In this paper, a temporal probabilistic approach, named segmental continuous hidden Markov model (SCHMM), is proposed to tackle the problem of degradation modeling and classification for mixed populations. Separate SCHMMs are built for each class of the mixed populations. The SCHMMs can directly depict the correspondence between actual degradation and the hidden states. A novel method called self‐training algorithm for the preprocessing of the original data from the mixed populations is proposed. Furthermore, the unknown parameters of the SCHMMs are estimated by the maximum likelihood method with the complete degradation data. The root mean square error of the estimated degradation value compared with the actual physical degradation value, as well as Akaike information criterion and Bayesian information criterion, is used for the evolution of the fitting accuracy and the selection of model topologies and discretization methods. Then the maximum posterior probability‐based classification criteria are developed. Degradation tests are designed for the data collection. To obtain the optimal classification policies, a cost function that consists of the degradation test cost and misclassification cost is constructed. A numerical example is used to illustrate the proposed method and demonstrate its advantages by comparing with other classification methods.
