    초록

This paper describes the dynamic performance of a variable speed wind turbine system responding to a wide variety of wind variations. Modeling of the wind generation using power electronics interface is proposed for dynamic simulation analysis. Component models and equations are addressed and their incorporations into a transient analysis program, PSCAD/EMTDC are provided. A wind model of four components is described, which enables observing dynamic behaviors of the wind turbine resulting from wind variations. Controllable power inverter strategies are intended for capturing the maximum power under variable speed operation and maintaining reactive power generation at a pre-determined level for constant power factor control or voltage regulation control. The components and control schemes are modeled by user-defined functions. Simulation case studies provide variable speed wind generator dynamic performance for changes in wind speed

    초록

This paper presents an optimal routing algorithm (ORA) for maximizing voltage stability as well as for minimizing power loss in radial power systems. In the proposed ORA, a novel voltage stability index (VSI) for real-time assessment is newly introduced based on the conventional critical transmission path framework. In addition, the suggested algorithm can automatically detect the critical transmission paths resulting in voltage collapse when additional real or reactive loads are added. To implement an effective ORA, we have developed an improved branch exchange (IBE) method based on a loss calculation index and tie-branch power flow equations, which are suggested for real-time applications. The proposed algorithm has been tested with IEEE test systems as well as a large-scale power system in Korea to demonstrate its effectiveness and efficiency.

Nowadays, one of the serious problems in the KEPCO system is a much higher fault current than the SCC (Short Circuit Capacity) of the circuit breaker. Since superconductivity technology has become more developed, the HTS-FCL (High Temperature Superconductor-Fault Current Limiter) may become an attractive alternative to solving the fault current problem. In order to achieve the best performance, the parameters of HTS-FCL should be designed optimally. Under this setting, this paper presents the optimal design method of parameters for resistive type HTS-FCL using the Monte Carlo technique.

    초록

A new small signal stability analysis method for eigenvalue analysis is presented. This method utilizes the Resistive Companion Form (RCF) for the computation of the transition matrix over a specified time interval, which corresponds to a single cycle operation of the system. This method is applicable to any system, with or without switching element. An illustrative example of the method is presented and the eigenvalues are compared with those of the conventional state space method (analog) in order to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed eigenvalue analysis method. Also, the variations of oscillation modes that are caused by the switching operation can be precisely analyzed using this method.

Installed capacity markets in the northeast of the United States ensure that adequate generation exists to satisfy regional loss of load probability (LOLP) criterion. LOLP studies are conducted to determine the amount of capacity that is needed, but they do not consider several factors that substantially affect the calculated distribution of available capacity. These studies do not account for the fact that generation availability increases during periods of high demand and therefore prices, common-cause failures that result in multiple generation units being unavailable at the same time, and the negative correlation between load and available capacity due to temperature and humidity. A categorization of incidents in an existing bulk power reliability database is proposed to analyze the existence and frequency of independent failures and those associated with resource dynamics. Findings are augmented with other empirical findings. Monte Carlo methods are proposed to model these resource dynamics. Using the IEEE Reliability Test System as a single-bus case study, the LOLP results change substantially when these factors are considered. Better data collection is necessary to support the more comprehensive modeling of resource adequacy that is proposed. In addition, a parallel processing method is used to offset the increase in computational times required to model these dynamics.
