    To improve the mean-life and reliability of power cables, we have investigated the volume resistivity and thermal properties demonstrated by changing the content of carbon black, an additive of the semiconductive shield for underground power transmission. Nine specimens were made of sheet form for measurement. Volume resistivity of the specimens was measured by a volume resistivity meter after 10 minutes in a preheated oven at temperatures of both 25 $\pm$ 1[ $^{\circ}C$ ] and 90 $\pm$ 1[ $^{\circ}C$ ]. As well, specific heat (Cp) and thermal conductivity were measured by Nano Flash Diffusivity and DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry). The ranges of measurement temperature were from 0[ $^{\circ}C$ ] to 200[ $^{\circ}C$ ], and heating temperature was 4[ $^{\circ}C$ /min]. From these experimental results, volume resistivity was high according to an increase of the content of carbon black. Specific heat was decreased, while thermal conductivity was increased according to a rise in the content of carbon black. Furthermore, both specific heat and thermal conductivity were increased by heating temperature because the volume of materials was expanded according to a rise in temperature.

    ZnO thin films were grown at different plume-substrate (P-S) angles of 90 $^{\circ}$ (on-axis PLD), 45 $^{\circ}$ and 0 $^{\circ}$ (off-axis PLD) using pulsed laser deposition. The x-ray diffraction pattern exhibiting a dominant (002) and a minor (101) peak of ZnO indicates all films were strongly c-axis oriented. By observing of (002) peak, the FWHMs of ZnO (002) peaks decreased and c-axis lattice constant approached the value of bulk ZnO as P-S angle decreased. Whereas the carrier concentration of ZnO thin film deposited at P-S angle of 90 $^{\circ}$ was ~ 10 $^{19}$ /cm $^{3}$ , the Hall measurement of ZnO thin films deposited at P-S angles of 0 $^{\circ}$ and 45 $^{\circ}$ was impossible due to the decrease of the carrier concentration by the improvement of stoichiometry and crystalline quality. By decreasing P-S angle, the grain size of the films and the UV intensity investigated by photoluminescence (PL) increased and UV peak position showed red shift. The improvement of properties in ZnO thin films deposited by off-axis technique was due to the decrease of repulsive force between a substrate and the particle in plume and the relaxation of supersaturation.

    Piezoelectric transformers(PT) are expected to be small, thin and highly efficient, and which are attractive as a transformer with high power density for step down voltage. For these reasons, we have attempted to develop a step-down PT for the miniaturized adaptor. We propose a PT, operating in thickness extensional vibration mode for step-down voltage. This PT consists of a multi-layered construction in the thickness direction. In order to develop the step-down PT of 10 W class and turn ratio of 0.1 with high efficiency and miniaturization, the piezoelectric ceramics and PT designs are estimated with a variety of characteristics. The basic composition of piezoelectric ceramics consists of ternary yPb(Zr $_{x}$ Ti $_{1-x}$ )O $_{3}$ -(1-y)Pb(Mn $_{1/3}$ Nb1 $_{1/3}$ Sb $_{1/3}$ )O $_{3}$ . In the piezoelectric characteristics evaluations, at y=0.95 and x=0.505, the electromechanical coupling factor(K $_{p}$ ) is 58 $\%$ , piezoelectric strain constant(d $_{33}$ ) is 270 pC/N, mechanical quality factor(Qr $_{m}$ ) is 1520, permittivity( $\varepsilon$ / 0) is 1500, and Curie temperature is 350 $^{\circ}C$ . At y = 0.90 and x = 0.500, kp is 56 $\%$ , d33 is 250 pC/N, Q $_{m}$ is 1820, $\varepsilon$ $_{33}$ $^{T}$ / $\varepsilon$ $_{0}$ is 1120, and Curie temperature is 290 $^{\circ}C$ . It shows the excellent properties at morphotropic phase boundary regions. PZT-PMNS ceramic may be available for high power piezoelectric devices such as PTs. The design of step-down PTs for adaptor proposes a multi-layer structure to overcome some structural defects of conventional PTs. In order to design PTs and analyze their performances, the finite element analysis and equivalent circuit analysis method are applied. The maximum peak of gain G as a first mode for thickness extensional vibration occurs near 0.85 MHz at load resistance of 10 .The peak of second mode at 1.7 MHz is 0.12 and the efficiency is 92 $\%$ .

    Organic monolayers were fabricated onto Au(l l l) substrate by self-assembly method using dipyridinium. Also, organic single molecule in the organic monolayers was selected to measure the current-voltage (I-V) curves by using the ultrahigh vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (UHV-STM). The organic molecule used in the experiment was dipyridinium dithioacetate, which contains thiol functional group and can be self-assembled easily onto Au(l l l) substrate. The concentration of dipyridinium dithioacetate for self-assembly procedure was I [mM/L]. To confirm the formation of self-assembled mono layers (SAMs), the differences of thickness of the self-assembled organic monolayers were observed by using an ellipsometer, and the morphology and I-V curves of the SAMs were investigated by using UHV-STM. The applied voltages were from -2 [V] to +2 [V], temperature was 300 [K]. The vacuum for measuring current of the organic single molecule was 6 $\times$ 10 $^{-8}$ [Torr]. As a result, properties of the negative differential resistance (NDR) in constant voltage were found.

    Currently, molecular devices are reported utilizing active self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) containing the nitro group as the active component, which has active redox centers [1]. SAMs are ordered molecular structures formed by the adsorption of an active surfactant on a solid surface. The molecules will be spontaneously oriented toward the substrate surface and form an energetically favorable ordered layer. During this process, the surface-active head group of the molecule chemically reacts with and chemisorbs onto the substrate In this paper, the electrical properties of the 4'4- di(ethynylphenyl)-2'-nitro-1-benzenethiolate was confirmed. This material is well known as a conducting molecule having possible application to molecular level negative differential resistance (NDR) device. To deposit the self-assembly monolayers onto the gold electrode, the prefabricated Au(1 l l) substrates were immersed into 0.5[mM/l] self-assembly molecule in THF solution. Then, the electrical properties and surface morphologies of 4' 4-di(ethynylphenyl)-2' -nitro-1-benzenethiolate were measured by using the ultra-high vacuum scanning tunneling microscopy (UHV-STM).

    Lithium titanium oxide as anode material for energy storage prepared by novel synthesis method. Li $_{4}$ Ti $_{5}$ O $_{12}$ based spinel-framework structures are of great interest material for lithium-ion batteries. We describe here Li $_{4}$ Ti $_{5}$ O $_{12}$ a zero-strain insertion material was prepared by novel sol-gel method and by high energy ball milling (HEBM) of precursor to from nanocrystalline phases. According to the X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis, uniformly distributed Li $_{4}$ Ti $_{5}$ O $_{12}$ particles with grain sizes of 100nm were synthesized. Lithium cells, consisting of Li $_{4}$ Ti $_{5}$ O $_{12}$ anode and lithium cathode showed the 173 mAh/g in the range of 1.0 $\~$ 3.0 V. Furthermore, the crystalline structure of Li $_{4}$ Ti $_{5}$ O $_{12}$ didn't transform during the lithium intercalation and deintercalation process.

    In this paper, we designed a cylindrical type light source having an electromagnetic principle of inductively coupled plasma, and measured its electrical-optical properties. Using the transformer principle, an electrically equivalent circuit cylindrical type light source was analyzed. According to the parameters of electromagnetic induction, which were diameter of coil with cpO.3 $\~$ 1.2mm, number of turns with 4 $\~$ 12 turns, distance with 40 $\~$ l20mm and RF power with 10 $\~$ 150W, the electrical .md optical properties were measured. When the diameter of the coil was cp0.3mm, number of turns was 8 and distance was 40mm, and the maximum brightness of 29,730 cd/m $^{2}$ was shown with RF power l50W. The relationship between electromagnetic induction and plasma discharges was demonstrated using the mode transition from E-mode to H-mode

    This paper describes a new approach to the algorithm and fundamental characteristics of the device for monitoring the leakage currents flowing through zinc oxide (ZnO) surge arresters. In order to obtain a technique for a new on-line monitoring device that can be used in the deterioration diagnosis of ZnO surge arresters, the new algorithm and on-line leakage current detection device for extracting the resistive and capacitive currents using the phase shift addition method were proposed. The computer-based on-line monitoring device can sense accurately the power frequency leakage currents flowing through ZnO surge arresters. The on-line leakage current monitoring device of ZnO surge arresters proposed in this work has the high sensitivity compared to the third harmonic leakage current detection devices. As a consequence, it was found that the proposed leakage current monitoring device would be useful for forecasting the defects and degradation of ZnO surge arresters.

    In this paper, we compared recognition rates between NN(neural networks) and clustering method as a scheme of off-line PD(partial discharge) diagnosis which occurs at the stator coil of traction motor. To acquire PD data, three defective models are made. PD data for classification were acquired from PD detector. And then statistical distributions are calculated to classify model discharge sources. These statistical distributions were applied as input data of two classification tools, BP(Back propagation algorithm) and ANFIS(adaptive network based fuzzy inference system) pre-processed FCM(fuzzy c-means) clustering method. So, classification rate of BP were somewhat higher than ANFIS. But other items of ANFIS were better than BP; learning time, parameter number, simplicity of algorithm.
