In the viewpoint of bioregionalism, I analyzed two pieces of works, Han- bong Bae's poem 『The heron of Woopo marsh』 and In soo Kang's novel 『Teacher of a dull drink of water』 which treated the ecology of Woopo marsh as a space of living life and also the ground of ecological existence. Both of the poet and the writer converged into the revival of the marsh which had been losing its own figure due to the industrialization. They brought forward suggestions which are the formation of ecological community and constitution of ethics for mutual existence between the marsh and human being for the restoration of the marsh. These works thoroughly preserved the ecological understanding about the land which is the beginning of bioregionalism and revealed the Woopo marsh as the particular extent which enclosed the nature of bioregionalism.

It can be assumed that the semantic history of the term "nature" in the Western culture, on the whole, can be divided into two major periods: the period until the medieval times in which people worshipped the immutable supernatural as superior to the mutable nature; and the period since the Renaissance in which nature has been perceived as the disenchanted material to be used by the human. Through the history of Western ideas, the concept of nature tends to be categorized as the Other that is inherently inferior to both the supernatural and the human. In the Eastern culture, human beings are believed to be positioned within nature, not outside it, and they are participating, actively or passively, in the continuous flow of dynamic energy. Thus, the concept of the inhuman nature as the raw material to be exploited by human beings for their own benefit is not compatible with the traditional (or pre-modem) Eastern mode of thought based on religious veneration of nature. To regard humanity as a product of nature, not as a dominating subject of the objectified nature, is one of the major characteristics of the ecocentric ethics. The nature/culture dualism, which should be regarded as an ideological (that is, cultural) conceptualization in the West, is not universal or cross-cultural. The culture/nature dualism is being most seriously criticized by cultural holists including ecofeminists. In this essay, I attempted to understand the main ideas inherent in cultural holism whose primary concern is to promote the ecocentric ethics through critical interrogations of the Western ideology embedded in the nature/culture dualism.

This study is to analyze the ecolyrical implications of 'tree-motive' in German Hermann Hesse's ecolyrics and Korean poet Ahn Do Hyun's ones, and to grasp a tendency of ecolyric of two countries. Since Rachel Carson, a biologist in USA., warned the hazards of environmental destruction because of abusing of chemical agricultural medicines, ecology has rooted as a principal science in European countries. The cold-war structure between West and East collapsed since 1980s, so human-beings have paid their attention to individual- and national egoism rather than an ideologic problems. Unfortunately, the pursue of egoism fostered the economical development but resulted in environmental pollution and vicious natural devastation. In the light of these changes and trends, ecolyrical poets became not to sing the beauty of nature simply but to perform the satirical aspect of nature aesthetically. They embody the life-ideology through their rich poetic imagination seriously and incessantly in the name of ecolyrics, environmental poems or life-poems etc. since 1980s. German ecolyrics are the critical verification and warn of the development as far, and aim at the 'ecotopia'. Hermann Hesse's nature-lyrics use mostly aesthetical words, the German ecolyrical poets since 1980s use very straight and radical words, so they are very cynical and paradoxical. On the other the hand, The ecolyrical- and environmental poems of Korea such as Ahn, Do Hyun, are very satirical and metaphoric except for several poets such as Choi, Seung Ho. The quince which "holds a few quince-fruits" will not evade the annoying and bothersome rain, because the "october-trees don't know any sorrow". In Germany or Korea, when poets don't write so-called ecolyrics any more, the World can become a livable one.

John Frow, in Cultural Studies and Cultural Value, considers of the intellectuals as an independent class different from the modem bourgeois and proletarian classes. The intellectual class has neither the labor force nor the financial capital but the cultural capital which is consisted of his(or her) habitus of knowledge. In the post(or late)-modern age, the intellectual class is divided into two categories. One is the intellectuals of modem state philosophy, the other is the intellectuals of trans (or de)-modern nomadology. Gilles Deleuze, in What Is Philosophy?, states that "art and philosophy converge at ... the constitution of an earth and a people that are lacking as the correlate of creation. It is not populist writers but the most aristocratic who lay claim to this future." And he says "this people and earth will not be found in our (western) democracies." John Coetzee is not an European populist writer but an African aritocratic one, and the republic of South Africa is not the modem western, white, and male centered territory but the trans-modem earth in the post-Apartheid In Disgrace, Coetzee depicts a life of one literary professor which is the process of deterritorialization and reterritorialization. David Lury deterritorializes from the territory of core and late modem university, and reterritorializes into the trans-modem nomadology of African primitive earth. His nomadology on Byron is made through becoming woman and becoming animal which are the crucial concepts of Deleuzian nomadology. These two concepts deconstruct the modem dichotomies of man/woman and human/animal which is made by stae philosophy, and construct people to come in the trans-modem future who is becoming minorities of nomadologyy. In the age of post-Apartheid, South Africa is becoming an earth for the modem political and economic minorities, John Coetzee is folding possibilities for the cultural lives of people to come in the trans-modem future who are Lury and Lucy in Disgrace.

    초록

At the start of the new century, it is fair to say that we face environmental challenges unprecedented in human history. Largely through human activity, life on Earth faces the greatest mass extinctions since the end of the dinosaur age. The natural resources that sustain life on this planet - air, water, and soil - are being polluted or depleted at alarming rates. The tendency in our culture is to treat such issues as simply scientific, technological, or political problems. But they are much more than this. These environmental and ecological controversies raise fundamental questions about what we as human beings value, about the kind of beings we are, the kinds of lives we should live, and the kind of world in which we might flourish. We can find much insight in Lawrence which leads us to solve the environmental and ecological problems of our only Earth. Lawrence's poems, especially "Snake", convince us that ecological thought is a "subversive subject" as Paul Sears suggests. Lawrence represents through poetical imagination what ecology is trying to subvert. Some of the possibilities that come to mind are: the accepted notion of what science does; the values and institutions of expansionary capitalism; the bias against nature in western religion(Christianity). All of these were targets of not only Lawrence but also the nineteenth-century Romantics. But Lawrence is different from those Romantics in that he perceives the relationship between parts and the whole and the dynamics of change that govern this whole. Lawrence shared the Romantic approach to nature with the previous Romantics; that is, it was concerned with relation, interdependence, and holism. These characteristics of Lawrence or Romantics are criticised by contemporary ecologists. The view received by Romantics is inclined to regard the wilderness as a static unchanging place and have a tendency to identify the wilderness with an idealized image as it existed at one particular point in time. Many ecocentric critics think that this view can see humans as separate from nature, perhaps drawing inspiration from it but nevertheless radically different from it. They stress the Darwinian understanding that humans are much a part of nature, neither transcendent to nor radically different from it. From that perspective, acceptance of a dualism of Romantics that man is different from nature can encourage conflict that man is against nature. The principle of objectivity demanded a cosmos stripped clean of all the emotional and spiritual qualities men and women theretofore had found in the natural world. The quest of objectivity also meant that the outer, physical world was to be kept firmly separated from all religious experience. The Romantic (or Lawrence's) rebellion was in large measure a refusal to grant scientific objectivity the authority it demanded as the only guide to truth and nature. According to Lawrence, one of the major faults of modem science including ecology was its contention that a man should coolly give his chief attention to the phenomenon which excites himself as something independent of himself. Lawrence's view of nature is that to see nature from an inner, personal, human perspective is a humble acknowledgment of correspondence and kinship. He says that if a man could not receive nature as an extension of himself, then it would be an alien world. A life-community Lawrence tried to construct is a community conceived on the ecological principle. In this life-community, not a detached, foreign world of objects as things, not even a system of merely economic relatedness, but a confluence of spirit and matter, must be the vision of Lawrence. Lawrence admitted that this deeper dimension of relationship could be explored or that it was much more important to do so.

This paper traces, analyzes and summarizes the changes of Ha Jong Oh(하종오)'s poetic world. He entered into poetic school in 1975 and has been working up to now, and his poems seems to show diverse changes. But these changes, in fact, reflect the contemporary social changes, which can be understandable considering 30 years of his poetic career. However, it can be noticed that a consistent logic is found under these ostensible changes. I would like to call it as the quest for 'relationship'. In other words, While man-to-man relationships was focused upon in his poems of eighties when the writer was deeply involved in social issues, and this tendency continued in his poems of nineties, the issue of man-to-environment is newly centered in his poems of 2000s. Based upon this, I had a critical opinion about an understanding his poems as ecological ones, which is widely reviewed and understood nowadays. The point here, I would argue, is not an interpretation of ecology or environment but the will of the poet about a desirable relationship, When the issue of ecology or environment is detached and is emphasized, the sense of relationship will be devaluated, which he would like to evade intentionally. His recent poems emphasizes this tendency. Noticing this issue, we look forward to his future poetic career.

They rejoice the hopeless and restore injured pure nature. In the and the , the value of life is degraded absolutely. Hoon stab old Doseop with a dagger in the . And Dongho and Hyuntea kill others on slender reason and they killed himself in the . But the ending restore the value of life as the Soak's pregnancy. The new life means relief from vice and cycle of nature. is a kind of ecological novel in point of dealing with ecological problem as the pollution of water, air and soil. Above all this is valuable novel because there is significance of 'cultivating ecological consciousness' and 'the religious sensibility'. There is not close but open humanism in the novels by Hwang Soon-won. And then they are excellent green literature in point that his novels respect life.

This dissertation has been written with a purpose to examine and to understand the meaning of the ecological crisis in Korean contemporary drama. Cha Beom-Seok is an author who gives us a valued insight. I looked into the danger of 'selfish indifference' and 'the inhuman behaviors' in Waste Land and forest fire. On the other hand, in the cases of Kim Sang-Lyeol and Yoon Jo-Byeong, a weak point is found that they cant' fuse the ecological crisis into a human problem. Works on environmental problem in Korean drama are very few and confined to some authors. Many of them depend on passing and current viewpoint. This should be supplemented imminently. Ecological literature seeks after the harmonious coexistence of human being and nature and has a final purpose to suggest the alternative. The study on the ecological literature, should be gathered in obtaining critical vision including urgent problems of contemporary society ecologically and in wise critical intervention giving rise to writing a work.
