    초록

    14 Hyanggas of Samkukyusa(삼국유사), the representative literary genre in Sin-La(신라) age, let us go to the root of its culture and art. The genre of Hyangga that all walks of life including the kings had enjoyed in 신라 is suited for the study to understand how Sin-La had thought and communed with nature. For 14 Hyanggas of Samkukyusa expressed and used variable nature aspects as subjects and materials and described relationships between human and nature, they are good evidences for studying Sin-La philosophy about the nature. This study is wrote for understanding Sin-La philosophy about the nature what was expressed in works for human attitude to nature in Hyanggas of Samkukyusa. The discussion is developed by the works used nature for expression to relationships with human in 14 Hyanggas of Samkukyusa. It is noticed that Hyanggas carried down with their narratives as a characteristic of Samkukyusa. The narratives are studied as the key to solving problems for studying epitomized and refined Hyanggas. Sin-La philosophy about the nature was expressed by below 4 ways. These are the nature aspects as objects of faith and awe, subjects of empathy, changeable objects for human desires, and objects to self-devotion against mundane. It is tangible evidences that they had the vibrant cognizance attitude to the nature beyond purely awe or emotions as the attitude to the nature in Sin-La. The multifarious attitude to the nature was highly helpful to make people develop affluent culture and ethos in Sin-La. The greatness of Sin-La that developed and enjoyed the advanced the art and the literature is how to express the human attitude to coexist with the nature.

    초록

    This thesis tried to examine the meanings and transfiguration processes of Jo Tae-Il"s poem. Jo Tae-Il"s poem has made the wild and primitive natural world which it experiences in childhood with the poetic protoplasm. Also it has made the strong vitality of the mother and the criticism ceremony of the father with the different protoplasm. The poet published all eight collection of poems. In his early works, he announced the poem which baldly criticized the contradiction of actuality against military dictatorship. In the latter works, the degree of actuality criticism is weakened. It strongly shows the intention to the wild and primitive natural world. His poem let to leave the poem which criticizes the contradiction of actuality against military dictatorship and desires a democracy and freedom. Also It let to leave the poem which passes over the capitalism time and aims the world of primitive life. Consequently, His poem will keep long vital force for a long time in the history of Korean poem.

    초록

    This paper aims to examine the significance of place in the age of environmental crisis, noting one of the paradoxical situations it has witnessed, a situation in which place-based issues and agendas upsurge in the fields of culture and politics while places become apparently homogeneous, less unique, and thus less important under the pressure of rapid globalization. Martin Heidegger"s meditation on the meaning of dwelling on the earth in his discussion about the impacts of modern technology provides a fruitful background for elucidating such a paradox. Heidegger"s philosophy, which criticizes the modern philosophical tradition of the West based on the Cartesian subject for isolating Being from the world, suggests that recent interest in places represent man"s ineradicable nostalgia for a way of life deep-rooted in, and coㅡmitted to, place. In this context the paper goes on to discuss various dimensions of the idea of place such as the difference between space and place and the different levels of experiencing place, and consider the symbolic implications of the idea of hometown against the penetration of the globalized systems of technological culture into social life. The paper finally discusses the return of place in relation to bioregionalism, which comes along as an alternative way of life in a challenge to the increasingly centralized system of global capitalism, one based on an authentic sense of localized community and of an authentic relation to nature.

    초록

    This paper is a study of W. S. Merwin"s animal poetry. Merwin believes that animals present evidence of the world"s independent life and of the web of which mankind is only one part. He diagnoses that the relationship between human and non-human life is broken off mainly because of human"s hubris which claims human can do everything as he wishes. For Merwin, man"s language is, most of all, the direct cause of the problem because he places too much value on language. Men believe that they are the only species which has language. This excessive belief in words makes human think that non-human life is merely an object over which human can control freely. Oftentimes, in the relationship between human and animals, language appears as a form of violence as we can see in "Fly". The fact that only human use language exalts them at the expense of other living things. And this is the main reason why Merwin searches for silence which, he thinks, can be a method of listening. To him, silence becomes another vehicle for a better relationship with non-human life, especially with animals. In this sense, listening can be a first step toward a genuine communication with animals. To practise silence and listening, man needs "self-negating". As a better way of communication, Merwin, in "The Paw," suggests a direct contact between human and animals. The direct contact serves not only as a metaphor for Merwin"s pessimistic vision of language, but also a kind of new language to restore the relationship. Thus Merwin suggests that restoration of the genuine relationship between human and non-human being is not always impossible.

    초록

    Ecological poetic is based on the notion that all the existences in nature have equal rights and values and as it emerged, a new question about the horizontal relationship of all living things was asked toward us. This practice of mutual existence and tolerance has been gradually piled up in our art works, and the ecological poetic has clearly become one major trend of art nowadays. The ecological poetic of this era measures the depth of time through the memories and traces in our body. Regretting the fact that it has only cared about the speed of time, it shows greater creativity by placing the depth in the front. Also, it is erasing the borders and the cultural markers artificially set by human beings. It focuses on describing the fresh senses about the principles and properties of life. Now the ecological poetic can possibly serve as itself the strongest resistor theory against the global dominance of capitalism. However, it should caution itself not to become another fetish and place itself as an alternative poetic, not as an excuse in circular reasoning or another form of mysticism.

    초록

    Since ecocriticism is a developing theory that, among other things, seeks activist interventions based on ethics, it is difficult to accept the exclusion of animals from critiques of environmentally-hostile thinking and practices. This paper is a manifesto explaining some of the reasons why animals have been left out of the ecocritical picture and suggesting some ways that animals might be included. No activity that endorses an ethics of exploitation—either explicitly (as hunting and fishing do) or tacitly (as the exclusion of animals from the theory does)—can possibly fall within the category of ecocritical theory. This manifesto argues vigorously for the inclusion of animals in ecocritical theory.
