This Study is about analyzing creative intentions and storytelling-imagination in 'clean-river novels' that are wrote about Chung-Gyu-Chun. And I find the feature of ecological-novel about 'clean-river novels' and the possibility of ecological -critics in contemporary literature. In the 1960-70s, Chung-Gyu-Chun was trapped by the concrete streets and the elevated roads in the industrializing and the civilizing process. The seoul government in an argument accomplished The Chung-Gyu-Chun Restoration Project from July in 2003 to October in 2005. So Chung-Gyu-Chun has been representative of the ecological culture in the early 2000s. But The Chung-Gyu-Chun Restoration Project has been criticized by the ecologist because of the limitation of environmental restoration. Now the Chung-Gyu-Chun simulacre have a favorable influence upon the citizen. The 'clean-river novels' is composed of 11 novels and making good use of the chung-gyu-chun restoration. It don't stand on a ecological awareness, but is watched with chung-gyu-chun material story which fill with civil-environments. The novelist's utterance has the sight of nationalist and the compulsion of modern Korean history. The Chun-gyu-chun in the 'clean-river novels' is figured with the space in the walking and the virtual quest of impossible love, and in the modern life and the historical identify. But that go after the government's policy and lost the prospect and the problem-consciousness of ecological novel.

It is the essay to study Han, Seung-Won's works from the viewpoint of ethics. Waterway and sea are very important to his works. Because all the characters living in the sea village are similar to the Janus-faced sea. Their conflicts are caused by the historical violence and the development-centrism. These factors compose the narrative of revenge and drive the endless desire of character. In this case, the waterway as a ecological life is cut by the revenge and desire, and the human relationships change from the equal relationships to the subordinate relationships. Similarly, the relationships of human and nature also are converted into the exploitable and subordinate relationships. The characters living like waterway make a conquest of the revengeful and subordinate relationships. They are the ethic heroes that try to going beyond the given social system and order.

Contemporary environmental discourses have developed and directed into various ways including almost all of the fields, but the core of the discourses has always circled around the question of how we humans look at nature, that is, how much nature exists for human well-being? Historically nature has been fluctuated between two opposite ends--anthropocentric perspective at one end and ecocentric perspective at the other end. The conflicts between conservation and preservation not only aptly represent these two opposing perspectives, but they also have helped launch environment movements. In the United States it was with the help of the concepts of conservation and preservation that modern environmental movements and environmental consciousness have been initiated and developed. The concept of conservation has led to the awareness that natural resources are not limitless so they could be exhausted with reckless exploitation. The concept of preservation has helped with the awareness that American wilderness and sublime landscapes which distinguish America from Europe are the sources of national pride and identity. American environmental philosopher George Perkins Marsh has been credited as the pioneer who first theorized the importance of conservation and preservation in the mid-19th century. However, it was in fact the American novelist James Fenimore Cooper who for the first time embodied the concepts of conservation and preservation into his work, especially The Pioneers, which preceded to Marsh"s Man and Nature by nearly 40 years. The ecocritical value of The Pioneers lies less in its premise of ecocentric perspectives than its narrative of conflicts among different viewpoints of man-nature relations: Judge Temple"s vision of conservation, Natty Bumppo"s preservation, and frontier town people"s utilitarianism. Through the clashes among these different viewpoints of nature in the American frontier, Cooper not only questions the established Western anthropocentric approach to nature, demonstrating the awareness of the importance of conservation and preservation, but also he further leads modern readers to ponder the difficult question of choice or compromise between conservation and preservation.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the literary style in Leslie Marmon Silko"s Ceremony from an ecofeminist point of view. Silko"s writing has three characteristics. The first one is intense sense expression. Ceremony is filled with the sense of sight, the sense of hearing, the sense of smell, the sense of taste, and the sense of touch. Various synesthesia images form a close sympathy with nature. The second characteristic is Silko"s use of plant images that engenders a unique sensibility. This sensibility can"t be separated from femininity. Night Swan and Ts"eh are symbolized as trees, and each is shown in blue and yellow. These female characters contribute to every step of mental growth of Tayo. The last one is Silko"s emphasis of spirituality. It is not philosophical idealism, but feminine principal completed by Night swan and T"seh. The lineage of the goddess from Spider Woman to Night Swan and Ts"eh is described as a spiritual resistance to the violence of the male-centered world. Silko"s Ceremony centers on sense, sensibility, and spirituality which are neglected in realistic literature. Ceremony is written in a style that various images and symbols are crossing and it forms the mysterious whole body. So it is similar to the quilt which is made from the cloth. Language in Ceremony is a sensual body language, plant language which echoes the universe and spiritual language which is filled with magic.

Against the imminent environmental war, there should be an effective device which makes us painfully aware that we, with the ruined environment, are all heading for self-destruction. Non-fictional writing acts as an immediate and direct eye-opener to the war. But seeing the fact that poetry, of which the origin goes back to the prehistoric age, has long been singing nature and men in nature, it can be one of the most powerful devices against the matricidal war. Theodore Roethke loves and sings nature, believing all his poetic inspirations have arisen from it. At first glance his poems look strange to readers. This strangeness comes mainly from the objects of his poems ― what he calls “fearful small” such as slugs, worms, moss and so on. The novelty of his poems arises also from his way of looking at nature. In a way, his poems are a record of his way of looking at nature, just “long looking.” By long looking, he establishes communion with his inner self and the natural world. And as the oneness with nature in his poems is done with humility before nature, it clearly manifests that we human beings are merely a part of nature. The ecological consciousness in his poems extends through regression into a state of intrinsic harmony between man and nature. Even if Roethke sings about the small in nature in a low and humble voice, its nudging is huge and even threatening to us. For the small nudging awakens us from the long-forgotten worth of nature. As nature has been our one and only dwelling place for a long time, there must be a key for us to live in harmony with nature. Any poetry which acts as an ecological text should help us in the search. Roethke's poetry holds the key.

Poetry essentially chases recovery of "basic unity", because poetry has a character to try combined phase from experience divided as the subject and the world. It was that an understanding method which the subject and the world have fixed continuance, we sought the retaking and recovering passage of lost and basic sense from not the subject"s faith but relation of things" level. Religious imagination is a sharp example. Park I-do"s poems were results on universal hope and wisdom of people. His poems always were linguistic figures closed by the original form of human and life. We could experience literary sublimation meeting the nature and human, and divine nature and human at a boundary of life from a pure, lone and seeking ego. Choi Mun-ja"s poems were interested in poetizing religious imagination. Nowadays she expresses pain and hurt of life, she beautifully shows a symbolized ritual which she endures and cures them with religious imagination. When religious imagination expresses, it becomes a kind of poetic form. Then poem and religion have the same relation in language form. As the structural same, similarity of the world pursued and realized by it, suggest possibility of religious imagination in poems. These religious imagination comes into appear details such as spirituality pursuit, transcendence will, divine recovery, and existence confession. Park I-do and Choi Mun-ja are the perfect examples.
