    초록

Abstract. Symmetry is very necessary in flexure mechanisms, which can eliminate parasitic motions, avoid buckling, and minimize thermal and manufacturing sensitivity. This paper proposes two symmetric and compact flexure designs, in-plane 3-DOC (degree of constraint) mechanisms, which are composed of 4 and 6 identical wire beams, respectively. Compared to traditional leaf-beam-based designs, the two present designs have lower stiffness in the primary motion directions, and have smaller stiffness reduction in the parasitic directions. Analytical modelling is conducted to derive the symbolic compliance equations, enabling quick analysis and comparisons of compliances of the two mechanisms. A prototype has been tested statically to compare with analytical models.

Abstract. In this paper, a lightweight suspension system for small urban personal transportation vehicle is presented. A CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforce polymer) beam spring has been used to efficiently integrate the functions of suspension control arm and anti-roll bar. Composites materials were chosen to tailor the required behavior of the beam spring and to reduce the weight. Furthermore, larger space for engine compartment has been provided thanks to the compact arrangement of beam suspension components. This suspension could be installed on electric/hybrid vehicles and conventional automobiles.

Abstract. Our team recently demonstrated that cantilever based devices can detect signature of life in a chemistry independent manner. In this technique, the organism of interest is attached onto a classical AFM cantilever. If alive, it induces nanometre scale oscillations of the cantilever that disappear once the organism is killed. The technique was successfully used on bacteria, yeast, vegetal and mammalian cells. In this work we demonstrate that the method can also be applied to sub-cellular organelles, such as mitochondria. Mitochondria are involved in cellular energy production and are present in most eukaryotic cells. Nowadays, it is believed that mitochondria were originally prokaryotes that colonized eukaryotic cells and that live in an endosymbiotic way ever since. Here we present that mitochondria are also animated by nanometre scale oscillations that depend on their metabolic state and that stop once they are inhibited. This observation opens novel avenues to investigate the numerous mitochondria-related diseases in humans.

    초록

Abstract. Notch flexure hinges are often used as revolute joints in high-precise compliant mechanisms, but their contour-dependent deformation and motion behaviour is currently difficult to predict. This paper presents general design equations for the calculation of the rotational stiffness, maximal angular elastic deflection and rotational precision of various notch flexure hinges in dependence of the geometric hinge parameters. The novel equations are obtained on the basis of a non-linear analytical model for a moment and a transverse force loaded beam with a variable contour height. Four flexure hinge contours are investigated, the semi-circular, the corner-filleted, the elliptical, and the recently introduced bi-quadratic polynomial contour. Depending on the contour, the error of the calculated results is in the range of less than 2 % to less than 16 % for the suggested parameter range compared with the analytical solution. Finite elements method (FEM) and experimental results correlate well with the predictions based on the comparatively simple and concise design equations.

    초록

Abstract. This paper presents a hierarchical and simultaneous gravity unloading method. An air bearing gravity unloading facility for two-orthogonal-axis antenna pointing mechanism (APM) is designed based on this method. This method is proposed based on the characteristics analysis of the two-orthogonal-axis APM and air bearings. The mechanism of the hierarchical and simultaneous gravity unloading method is described in detail. It solves the coupling problem of two axes and unloads the gravity of both joints hierarchically and simultaneously. The air bearing gravity unloading facility which is a structure mechanism with two layers based on this method is designed with planar air bearing and air spindle. The structure of the facility is described in detail. The dynamic models of the APM with its load in space environment and on the air bearing gravity unloading facility are derived respectively. With the analysing of the driving torques and vertical forces of the APM joints in both models, the results demonstrate that the gravity unloading facility can simulate the microgravity environment successfully. This conclusion is also proved by the dynamic simulation with ADAMS software. The simulation also provides some optimization targets for the gravity unloading facility. At last, the gravity unloading facility is established and some experiments are done. The dynamic models, the simulation results and the experiments all show the effectiveness of the hierarchical and simultaneous gravity unloading method.

    초록

Abstract. The robotics, particularly the humanoid research field, needs new mechanisms to meet the criteria enforced by compliance, workspace requirements, motion profile characteristics and variable stiffness using lightweight but robust designs. The mechanism proposed herein is a solution to this problem by a parallel-series hybrid mechanism. The parallel term comes from two cable-driven plates supported by a compression spring in between. Furthermore, there is a two-part concentric shaft, passing through both plates connected by a universal joint. Because of the kinematic constraints of the universal joint, the mechanism can be considered as a serial chain. The mechanism has 4 degrees of freedom (DOF) which are pitch, roll, yaw motions and translational movement in z axis for stiffness adjustment. The kinematic model is obtained to define the workspace. The helical spring is analysed by using Castigliano's Theorem and the behaviour of bending and compression characteristics are presented which are validated by using finite element analysis (FEA). Hence, the dynamic model of the mechanism is derived depending on the spring reaction forces and moments. The motion experiments are performed to validate both kinematic and dynamic models. As a result, the proposed mechanism has a potential use in robotics especially in humanoid robot joints, considering the requirements of this robotic field.

    초록

Abstract. This paper presents results of an experimental investigation on the falling down of the human body in order to identify significant characteristics and parameters. A specific lab layout has been settled up with vision tracking system and suitable sensors to monitor information on trajectories, impact force and acceleration during the falling with elaboration procedures that make fairly easy to track and interpret the motion characteristics. We focus on the more often falling mode: forward and backward falling Tests are discussed with results from lab tests that give both behavior and values of the biomechanics of falling down of the human body. Possible protection strategies for falling based on the proposed research are talked about at the last.

Abstract. The mechanisms of one degree of freedom can be dynamically analysed by setting out a single differential equation of motion which variable is the generalized coordinate selected as independent. In front of the use of a set of generalized dependent coordinates to describe the system, the method exposed in this work has the advantage of working with a single variable but leads to complex analytical expressions for the coefficients of the differential equation, even in simple mechanisms. The theoretical approach, in this paper, is developed from Eksergian's method and Lagrange's equations. The equation of motion is written by means of a set of parameters - reduced parameters - that characterize the dynamic behaviour of the system. These parameters are function of the independent coordinate chosen and its derivative and can be obtained numerically by direct calculus or by means of a kinetostatic analysis, as is proposed. Two cases of study of the method are presented. The first example shows the study of pedalling a stationary bicycle used in a rehabilitation process. The second one shows the analysis of a single dwell bar mechanism which is driven by an electric motor.

    Mechanical sciences v.8 no.1 ,pp. 101 - 109 , 2017 , 2191-9151 ,

    초록

Abstract. This paper presents an algebraic strategy for formulating the configuration transformation of a special class of reconfigurable cube mechanism (RCM) made by 2 3 cyclically connected sub-cubes. The RCM studied here is kinematically equivalent to a spatial eight-bar linkage having eight transformable configurations. In this paper, the reconfiguration characteristics of the RCM are figured out first. Then, the initial configuration of the RCM is described by a joint-screw matrix, from which all the consecutive joint-screw matrices that represent the configuration transformation of the RCM can be derived. An illustrative example is provided to determine the eight joint-screw matrices of an RCM at an initial configuration. This reconfiguration formulation is further applied to enumerate all feasible topological configurations of such a special reconfigurable mechanism. The results show that, for such a special kind of reconfigurable cube mechanisms, there is only one feasible initial topological configuration for the RCM to perform a complete cycle of reconfiguration.

    Mechanical sciences v.8 no.1 ,pp. 111 - 115 , 2017 , 2191-9151 ,

Abstract. A quantitative physical model, describing the piezoelectric electromechanical coupling in nanomechanical resonators with a two-dimensional electron gas, is developed. Numerical calculations of the change in density of a two-dimensional electron gas contained in a vibrating cantilever are performed using the model and are shown to be consistent with the experiment. The obtained data show that the vibration-induced electron density modulation is localized near the clamping point and that it is related to a rapid spatial change in the mechanical stress near this point. It is shown that details of the clamping geometry significantly affect the magnitude of the effect.
