  1. [해외논문]   Using Technology to Promote Academic Success for Students with Learning Disabilities

    Alghazo, Ali M. , Al-Otaibi, Boshra E.
    Journal of studies in education v.6 no.3 ,pp. 62 , 2016 ,

    초록

The following research paper provides intends to act as an authoritative reference point for information related to using technology to promote academic success of students with Learning Disabilities (LD) based on information retrieved from various sources. The major objectives of this study are: To explore the advantages resulting from usage of technology to promote academic success for students with learning disabilities; To understand the obstacles that hinder the successful implementation and integration of technology that could be used to promote academic success for students with learning disabilities. To answer the question of how can technologies be used and integrated in the best possible manner to promote academic success for students with learning disabilities? The methodology used in the following study is a systematic literature review of relevant research studies and articles. A methodical analysis of previous literature is an imperative part of any academic research project (Webster & Watson, 2002). A comprehensive, high-level literature review forms the basis and motivation for constructive and extensive research (Boote and Beile, 2005, p. 3). The study found that schools and educationists need to execute requisite pedagogy in such a manner that students with LD are benefitted rather than confining them to special instructions and objectives. Integrating technology into regular education to support students with LD need not be costly or necessitate massive training. Assistive technology ranging from low-tech devices like pencil grips to advanced software like speech recognition software can empower children having LD with the skills required to take forward their education in an equivalent manner like their peers. Emerging technologies like social networking sites and freely available communication software can aid effective association with teachers and peers. Continuous policy up gradation and research can immensely contribute towards technology incorporation within teaching lessons for students with different academic LD.

  3. [해외논문]   The Effect of Immediate and Delayed Error Correction on Accuracy of EFL Learners' Oral Production

    Safari, Fatemeh
    Journal of studies in education v.6 no.3 ,pp. 93 , 2016 ,

    초록

The concept of corrective feedback in learning a second language has gained more importance and it has been the subject of many researches during recent years. Therefore, considering some aspects that affect it such as when and how to correct, and also what types of corrective feedback are more preferable and effective is of crucial concern. The aim of this study is to find the most effective type of error correction (especially the best time: whether immediately or delayed) in the case of accuracy of Iranian EFL learners' oral production. Thus, in order to investigate this study, 30 homogenous intermediate EFL learners were selected randomly (female) aged 13 to 30 from Tak English language institute in Dezful, Iran. The participants were divided into 2 groups of 15. For G1 errors were corrected immediately and for G2 with some delay, i.e. after finishing their speech during a term. At the end of the term, each student were asked to discuss one of the topics they have covered during the term, while their voices were recorded and transcribed later. Measures of accuracy were developed to examine the results. Data analysis indicated that both Immediate and Delayed Error Correction had positive effects on the accuracy of learners' oral production. However, it was evident that although both types of CF were beneficial, the effects of Immediate Error Correction were larger than the other. In conclusion, regarding the specific purpose of language learning in a specific situation and classroom, it is recommended that teachers should be familiarized with all types of CF and then cautiously select the most appropriate one.

Maynes, Nancy , Hatt, Blaine E.
    Journal of studies in education v.6 no.3 ,pp. 113 , 2016 ,

    초록

This paper describes two planning diagrams that support pre-service and early career teachers' understanding of direct and indirect instructional approaches to teaching Conceptual models can support understanding of the embedded decision points that new teachers must address as they plan lessons. In this paper, we offer 2 models to support the understanding of pre-service and early career teachers with two conceptual diagrams that relate to lesson planning. One of these diagrams has been used for several years with pre-service teachers who have identified that this conceptual diagram has helped them understand planning concepts early in their planning experiences. This diagram demonstrates the phases of instruction used by experienced teachers when they plan for direct instruction. A body of prior research has been completed to demonstrate the existence of the main conceptions and relative times in the diagram as they are evident in teachers' practice and to identify how the diagram is perceived by pre-service teachers. The second diagram has been designed as a complimentary method of helping pre-service teachers understand concepts related to planning for indirect instruction involving various forms of inquiry.

  8. [해외논문]   Higher Education Students' Preferences for Applying the Principles of Constructivism in Learning Programming Languages with the Use of ICTs

    Gasaymeh, Al-Mothana , AlJa'afreh, Ibraheem A. , Al-Dmour, Ayman , Alrub, Mohammad Abu
    Journal of studies in education v.6 no.3 ,pp. 168 , 2016 ,

    초록

This study investigated university students' preferences when the principles of constructivism are applied in their learning of programming languages with the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the factors which influence these preferences.‎ The respondents for this study were 193 students from three courses teaching programming languages in computer labs. A cross-sectional survey design was used. The study involved one group of students who were taught programming languages based on the principles of constructivism and another group which was taught using the lecture-based teaching methods. At the end of the courses, data were collected through a questionnaire instrument that consisted of set of questions on a five-point Likert scale. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA. The results show that in their learning of programming languages, the students had strong preferences for using each of the principles of constructivism considered in this study. The results showed that there were no significant differences in students' preferences regarding the use of constructivist principles based on gender, age, major, and prior experience in constructivist learning except for one scale. To maximize students' learning, students' preferences regarding the characteristics of the classroom learning environment should govern educational practice. The recommendations for higher education are related to educational practice as well as to ways of using ICTs to support university students' learning in general and to support the learning of programming languages in particular.
