Abstract The study aims to identify the presence of psychiatric disorders (and the different types) among the homeless, while also seeking a correlation between homelessness and mental health problems. The study was conducted as qualitative research at a low-threshold day treatment center in TrenčIn between January 1 and October 1, 2017. The research sample consisted of twelve users of low-threshold social services, and through these participants we examined and identified not only the extent of psychiatric disorders present in them, but also the current state of treatment and the interest of the participants in addressing existing mental health problems alongside their relationship to their social environment. The results of the study demonstrated the connection between homelessness and mental health problems, as well as the consequences of the failure to treat psychological problems due to how the homeless act and their behavior toward their social environment, limiting the ability to reintegrate them into society.

Abstract Working in the social sphere is a profession that involves intensive social interaction with clients. The aim of this paper is to describe work satisfaction in the research group of social workers and workers in social services from the South Bohemian region ( N = 227). This is established by the means of a standardized Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS, Spector) and an evaluation of pressure of work by means of a Meister questionnaire. The research aim is also to test the relationships of dependent variables within the job positions and the scope of employment in this group of employees. The results show the research group is ambivalent from the aspect of work satisfaction, which means they are medium satisfied (56.1% of the research group). Total dissatisfaction has been identified in less than 5% of employees and satisfaction has been identified distinctly less than in the whole of the Czech population. The employees especially showed their satisfaction in the area of relationships at the workplace, communication and the scope of employment. Dissatisfaction was shown in possibilities for career development, evaluation of their work, and administrative stress. Less than 5% of the respondents mentioned high work stress, but despite this the group evaluated their working conditions rather negatively. The total pressure of work of most respondents conforms to the category 2, whereas temporary affection of subjective state and productivity can regularly occur. 17.4% of the research group reach the levels that increase the limit of mental pressure of work. A statistically significantly higher rate of pressure of work in the social workers compared to the workers in social services has also been proved. Generally satisfaction has been influenced by the trend of understanding social work as an obligation and support from the working collective, while negatives are connected with pay grades and work benefits.

Abstract Aim To identify the incidence of key fall risk factors in groups of older adults in long-term care facilities and to find out which factors can be identified by the Morse Fall Scale (MFS) as significant in relation to high fall risks. Fall risk screening is the basis for efficient intervention planning. MFS is often recommended for fall risk detection even in long-term care settings. No tool for the prediction of fall risks has been tested in Slovakia so far. Methods The design of this study is descriptive and correlated. Fall risk factors and fall risk screening (according to MFS) were assessed in 89 older adults in two long-term care facilities. The data were collected from July to October 2016. Results The majority of monitored risk factors had a high incidence in the sample. The authors identified that a strong predictor of a fall is mainly the presence of a fall in the patient's clinical history. Statistically significant correlations were found between a history of falling, disorder of the gait and balance, use of ambulatory aids, mental disorder, falling during the study and a high fall risk according to MFS. Conclusion This tool provides nurses with the information on the level of fall risk and specific risk factors. It also enables targeted planning of preventive and protective interventions. Despite the clinical efficiency of the tool it is still important to continue testing the prediction value of the tool in different areas of nursing practice in Slovakia.

Abstract The number of patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) has been continuously rising. Telemonitoring care (Home Monitoring™ – HM) has been increasingly used during the monitoring of these patients. Methods 150 patients with ICDs who were monitored using the HM system (HM+), and 150 patients with ICDs who were monitored using standard outpatient check-ups (HM−) were included. A questionnaire, which focused on the quality of life (QoL) (EQ5D-3L), level of anxiety and depression (HADS), and a custom questionnaire examining the subjective approach of patients to the HM system and telecare workflow, was sent out to all patients. Results The method of ICD monitoring did not directly influence the QoL ( p = NS). A non-significant trend towards better QoL in HM+ compared to HM− patients was recorded. It was based on total QoL scores (68.6±19 vs. 64.6±16.5, p = 0.09). Regarding anxiety and depression, statistical testing also failed to find any difference between HM+ and HM− patients. The most striking difference between HM+ and HM− patients was recorded in the preference for the type of monitoring. 54.9% of HM− patients were interested in remote monitoring, 45.1% said they preferred outpatient check-ups, and only 6.7% ( p p = 0.007) and had a positive approach towards the telecare system ( p = 0.034). Conclusion The method of device monitoring does not significantly affect QoL in patients with ICDs, nor does it affect levels of anxiety and depression. Generally, patients with ICDs monitored using the HM system were very satisfied with telecare and would prefer not to lose remote ICD monitoring.

Abstract Quality of life is an individual's perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards and concerns. For the assessment of the quality of life in children, a number of questionnaires are used. One of them is the Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory™ (PedsQL) questionnaire. This questionnaire has an added value in the possibility to engage the whole family. The goal of this study is to increase the awareness about the content and reliability of the PedsQL questionnaires and to verify their content and reliability. After studying the information gained by a secondary data analysis, it will be mutually compared and the possibilities of its use for the assessment of the quality of life in children with specific chronic diseases will be suggested. For the assessment, we used a secondary data analysis gained from the WOS and SCOPUS databases, as well as from those that can be found in the PubMed database (e.g. MEDLINE). The source for obtaining the PedsQL questionnaires is ePROVIDE, where questionnaires are available after registration. When selecting the publications, we considered whether the measure of reliability – the Cronbach's alpha, was stated. We used the Boolean operators with the key words PedsQL, PedsQL AND Validation, PedsQL AND Reliability. The oldest references used for this article are from June 1996 and the newest are from August 2017. After analysing these sources, we carried out the synthesis of the gained information. We used the Haynes pyramid EDA to assess the results.

Abstract The aim of this study is to point to the concept of the c-coping style of oncological patients, towards whom the attention has been shifted in the research sphere in the last few years. The preferences in coping strategies of oncological patients were identified and compared to the respondents who did not suffer from this serious disease. The result of the statistical comparison within the research group shows the differences in selected coping strategies, as well as differences in personal characteristics. The results of this study point to the fact that respondents diagnosed with oncological disease prefer, on the larger scale, selected coping strategies, which are generally considered to be more effective (Minimization, Distraction, Substitute gratification, Reaction control). At the same time, however, they possess the dimension of personal characteristics, through which the feelings of insecurity, hopelessness, and so on, can be defined. (Restlessness and Resilience dimension). Respondents diagnosed with oncological disease are also dominated by the need for social support and assistance strategy. On the other hand, respondents who have not been diagnosed with an oncological disease often show much higher intensity of the personal attribute called “Openness”. The authors respect the importance of using gender-sensitive language. For the purpose of clarity of the paper they are using the non-specific gender terms of patient or respondent, referring to both genders.

Abstract Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on Social Services, brought a number of conceptual changes. The main aim of this paper is to compare the quality of social services in terms of user satisfaction in relation to the provider, and to find out whether these facilities are comparable in providing social services, whether they meet the needs of the target group of seniors and whether the seniors are satisfied with the service. A field survey was performed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The sample of respondents ( n = 108) was composed of seniors using residential social services for the elderly provided by both public and private entities. The questioning was conducted through structured interviews, taking into account the specificities of the questioning of the elderly. The qualitative survey was carried out using a semi-standardized interview with statutory representatives of homes for the elderly, family members and representatives of the founders of public organizations. More than three quarters of respondents rated the social service provided to them very positively. In the field of technical security, it was the non-state facility which received the better evaluation. Furthermore, the investigation conducted with statutory representatives of the organizations has provided valuable information on the funding of social services. The current funding method does not allow longer-term planning of organizational development, investment, and personnel policy. Finally, recommendations for practice are mentioned.

Abstract Objective Basic lifesaving activities should be taught in early childhood to develop helping attitude. Our goal was to teach up-to-date theoretical and practical basic first aid using the method of play for kindergarten children. Methods 51 children visiting kindergarten in two areas of Hungary were involved in the survey, which took place between September and November 2011. The training consisted of two sessions with theoretical and practical games about first aid. As well as the first steps, which concerned how to examine and handle an unconscious patient and how to call an ambulance, the most frequently occurring injuries were also performed in different playful situations. In the third session, children were tested on their skills and a month later they were re-tested. The tests measured the children's problem-solving skills and their basic knowledge about different scenarios requiring first aid. The statistical analysis was made with the SPSS 17.0 software using the Chi-square test and t -test. Results The maximum point score of the test was 38 points. The average point score of the first test was 16.94 points and the second resulted in higher scores (17.5 points). The difference between the results was significant ( p p Conclusions 5 and 6 year old kindergarten children can learn the basic concepts, but fewer children are able to act adequately in complex situations. A playful method of teaching first aid can improve children's knowledge and helping attitude.

Abstract One of the main strategies that healthy universities implement among their students is that of promoting healthy lifestyles. However, behind these healthy lifestyles, there may be some aspects related to family functioning that favour or limit its implementation. Consequently, the objective of this study is to establish whether there is a relationship between lifestyles and family cohesion, family ethnic socialization and the affective behaviour of the father and the mother. A cross-sectional study was conducted with a representative sample of 159 female university students from an indigenous area of Oaxaca, Mexico. The Healthy Lifestyle Scale for University Students, the Self-Assessment Scale of Affective Behaviour (with regard to the father and the mother) and the Family Cohesion Scale were used. Family ethnic socialization revealed a significant interrelationship with lifestyles in all ethnic groups. However, these scores were higher in the indigenous groups. Although the moderate hostility from the father did not show any relationship with lifestyles in either ethnic group, the scores for hostility from the father were higher in indigenous groups than in the mestizo group. A multivariate analysis confirmed better lifestyles when better family cohesion and greater warmth of the father were observed.
