  1. [해외논문]   Determinants of Baseball Success: An Econometric Approach

    While much has been investigated into the relationship between several baseball statistics and success, the literature is more heavily focused on individual level characteristics and the salary of individual baseball players. This paper investigates, at a more macro level, the importance of key baseball statistics on the level of wins a team can expect on average using the Lahman Baseball Database for all teams from 1985 to 2015. After several robustness tests, the most important variables an average team should focus on is the total number of runs a team gives up and getting on base as often as possible (by walks as well as base hits). The paper finds that while team salary is statistically significant, it takes an unreasonably large change in salary to be meaningful in terms of number of wins recorded. Therefore, previous research on the effect of salary on team success may be overblown.

    This paper examines the behavioral bias in Tunisia, a country with a small stock market in terms of capital, but surprisingly dynamic in comparison to other emerging markets. Our study is consistent with Jegadeesh & Titman (1993)' approach as presented to highlight an analysis of such reversal phenomena of portfolio returns, and provides explanatory factors to the so-called market trends reversal. The empirical investigation is based on a weekly database for a period from January 2002 to January 2013 related to stock prices and index values of market capitalization (TUNINDEX). The empirical test demonstrates the existence of winner-loser phenomenon in accordance with over-reaction hypothesis stating that portfolios with the worst past performance outperform, during the subsequent periods, those having produced best past performance and vice versa.

  3. [해외논문]   Do Exports lead Economic Output in Five Asian Countries? A Cointegration and Granger Causality Analysis

    This paper examines the relationship between exports and economic output for five major Asian economies using annual data in an expanded data set and employing unit root and cointegration analysis. It employs a Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) that treats all variables in the modified production function as potentially endogenous and then determines via weak exogeneity tests whether some of the key variables can be treated as exogenous (omitted from the system). Johansen cointegration tests find a positive long-run relationship between exports and economic output for the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. Cointegration tests find a negative long-run relationship between exports and economic output for India. The Block Granger causality tests and impulse response functions for the Philippines and Singapore find stronger causality from exports to economic output rather than the reverse. Granger causality tests in level form also find significant causality from exports to economic output. No causality exists between exports and economic output in the case of India. Exports seem to promote economic growth in three of the four countries that have cointegrated data, which supports the exports-led growth hypothesis found in some of the extant literature. The paper does not find cointegration for China because the variables are integrated of different orders from I(0) to I(2).

    Research on the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) performance to the financial performance have been widely studied previously. However, there were a few studies investigate the effect of CSR on accrual quality which is one of the attributes of earning quality. The aim of this study is to examine the affect of CSR toward accrual quality in the context of Indonesia, where the empirical results of the benefits of CSR implementatation are still scant.Research samples are all listed companies in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) in miscellaneous industry sector for period 2009 to 2013. There are 92 firm years included in this study. CSR is measured by scoring CSR activities of the firm based on GRI Index guideline version 3.1, whereas attributes of earning quality used in this study is accrual quality. We include two control variables in this research model i.e. firm size and leverage. The results show that CSR performance do not explain the changes in accrual quality. Leverage has no effect on accrual quality as well. On the other hand firm size has a significant effect on CSR performance however the sign of association is contrary with the expected.

    In this paper, we attempt to explore the nature of the linkage relation of liquidity with market structure. Owing to his function of serving liquidity immediacy, the market maker determines his transacting prices (bid and ask) with all other operators. Accordingly, via his bid-ask spread, he does orient the transaction flow. This study shuts for testing a measure of market liquidity via the bid-ask spread via Stoll Model methodology (1989) on the covariance s' regressions on Tunis stock market over a period stretching from January 2005 until January 2012. The results show that the higher the spread; the less liquid is the market.

    The primary objective of this study is to examine whether the CEO's cash compensation is influenced by the firm's performance or whether the inverse relationship exists, where the CEO's bonus rather has a positive effect on company performance. The study includes an examination of firms listed on six emerging countries financial markets, and includes separate statistical tests on firms of different sizes and different industry sector. The findings of the study demonstrate that there is no relationship between CEO cash compensation and performance among the firms included in this study. Notwithstanding, some other incentive variables have been found as important performance boosters among companies in certain sectors. This study has been able to establish that some theories of incentive contracts hold true among firms of certain sizes as well as among firms from certain industries.

    The mobile application industry has more actions and services in recent years due to consumer demand.The purpose of this study is to explain the relationships among perceived value, satisfaction, and customer loyalty in the paid mobile application industry. Moreover, this studydevelops and testsa conceptual model that offer a value perspective in understanding customer loyalty toward paid mobile applications. Toachieve this aim, perceived value and customer satisfaction must be measured and “switching costs” identified. This study also takes a value component perspective from Bernardo, Marimon and del Mar Alonso-Almeida (2012) to confirm how the two types of switching costs (monetary vs. nonmonetary switching costs) moderate the link in perceived value, satisfaction, and loyalty in the instance of a paid entertainment mobile application. The results from an online survey indicate that the switching costs had a moderating effect on the relationship between perceived value and loyalty, and the satisfaction and loyalty of using paid mobile applications. With respect to the findings, the moderating effect of switching cost play a critical role in determining customer loyalty of paid mobile applications. It also revealed that nonmonetary switching costs has more importance than monetary switching costs in engendering loyalty, since monetary contains price in the download paid mobile applications, which provides negative outcomes among the relationship of perceived value, satisfaction, and loyalty. In the conclusion, the implications of these findings are discussed.

    This paper explores the impact of input trade liberalization on export product scope of firms in industries with different scope for product differentiation. Firm- and industry-specific tariffs are measured to reflect cost effect (intensive margin) and new input effect (extensive margin) of input tariff reductions. Using tariff data and product-level trade data for 2002-2006, we find that while firms in differentiated product scope expand export product lines greatly, firms in non-differentiated product sector do not expand export product scope significantly, which is robust to different definitions of varieties.

    Authentic leadership, as a new leadership concept emerging from the demand for honest and reliable leaders, has attracted the attention of the business community. The relationship between authentic leaders and their followers is being investigated across many disciplines. This study focuses on authentic leadership in sales management and explores how it affects the task-related outcomes of salespeople, such as learning orientation, customer orientation, intrinsic motivation and working hard. The data for the study were obtained from 364 salespeople and analysed using the partial least squares method.     ISO 26000 is one of those prevailing guidelines on social responsibility adopted by practitioners. Despite its growing embracement, the dimensions of ISO 26000 have not been empirically operationalized. The lack of validated scales limits its compatibility in real-life practices as well as academic research on the standard. Adopting quantitative and qualitative methodology, the multidimensional scale of ISO 26000 is first operationalized through a questionnaire survey with 286 organizations in Hong Kong. The measurement items are then triangulated with industrial evidence garnered from in-depth interviews with seven organizations comprising two listed companies, two private companies, and three non-governmental organizations with operations in Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China, Asia and the Middle East. Our measurement scale contributes to future studies of ISO 26000 in the corporate social responsibility literature. The validated scale will also be a handy guide for aligning social responsibility with the practical context and strategic implantation.
