  1. [해외논문]   Universal Droop Control of Inverters With Different Types of Output Impedance

    Droop control is a well-known strategy for the parallel operation of inverters. However, the droop control strategy changes its form for inverters with different types of output impedance, and so far, it is impossible to operate inverters with inductive and capacitive output impedances in parallel. In this paper, it is shown that there exists a universal droop control principle for inverters with output impedance having a phase angle between -(π/2) rad and (π/2) rad. It takes the form of the droop control for inverters with resistive output impedance (R-inverters). Hence, the robust droop controller recently proposed in the literature for R-inverters actually provides one way to implement such a universal droop controller that can be applied to all practical inverters without the need of knowing the impedance angle. The small-signal stability of an inverter equipped with the universal droop controller is analyzed, and it is shown to be stable when the phase angle of the output impedance changes from -(π/2) rad to (π/2) rad. Both real-time simulation results and experimental results from a test rig consisting of an R-inverter, an L-inverter, and a C-inverter operated in parallel are presented to validate the proposed strategy.

    This paper describes a new type of communication network called data and energy integrated communication networks (DEINs), which integrates the traditionally separate two processes, i.e., wireless information transfer (WIT) and wireless energy transfer (WET), fulfilling co-transmission of data and energy. In particular, the energy transmission using radio frequency is for the purpose of energy harvesting (EH) rather than information decoding. One driving force of the advent of DEINs is wireless big data, which comes from wireless sensors that produce a large amount of small piece of data. These sensors are typically powered by battery that drains sooner or later and will have to be taken out and then replaced or recharged. EH has emerged as a technology to wirelessly charge batteries in a contactless way. Recent research work has attempted to combine WET with WIT, typically under the label of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer. Such work in the literature largely focuses on the communication side of the whole wireless networks with particular emphasis on power allocation. The DEIN communication network proposed in this paper regards the convergence of WIT and WET as a full system that considers not only the physical layer but also the higher layers, such as media access control and information routing. After describing the DEIN concept and its high-level architecture/protocol stack, this paper presents two use cases focusing on the lower layer and the higher layer of a DEIN network, respectively. The lower layer use case is about a fair resource allocation algorithm, whereas the high-layer section introduces an efficient data forwarding scheme in combination with EH. The two case studies aim to give a better explanation of the DEIN concept. Some future research directions and challenges are also pointed out.

    초록

    The security issues facing quantum key distribution (QKD) are explained, herein focusing on those issues that are cryptographic and information theoretic in nature and not those based on physics. The problem of security criteria is addressed. It is demonstrated that an attacker's success probabilities are the fundamental criteria of security that any theoretic security criterion must relate to in order to have operational significance. The errors committed in the prevalent interpretation of the trace distance criterion are analyzed. The security proofs of QKD protocols are discussed and assessed in regard to three main features: their validity, completeness, and adequacy of the achieved numerical security level. Problems are identified in all these features. It appears that the QKD security situation is quite different from the common perception that a QKD-generated key is nearly perfectly secure. Built into our discussion is a simple but complete quantitative description of the information theoretic security of classical key distribution that is also applicable to the quantum situation. In the Appendixes, we provide a brief outline of the history of some major QKD security proofs, a rather unfavorable comparison of current QKD proven security with that of conventional symmetric key ciphers, and a list of objections and answers concerning some major points of this paper.

    Green perpetual sensor network operation is the need of the hour for critical applications, such as surveillance, military, and environment monitoring. Mobile integrated data collection and recharging is a promising approach to meet this requirement by routinely visiting the field nodes for collecting the sensed data and supplying energy via radio frequency (RF) energy transfer. Practical constraints, such as self-discharge and aging effects of the energy storage element (supercapacitor), significantly impact the renewable energy cycle (REC) and, hence, strongly influence the performance of RF energy harvesting networks. To account for the nonidealities in practical supercapacitors, in this paper, a circuit model for REC is proposed, and corresponding RF charging time and node lifetime expressions are derived. Hardware experiments are performed to validate the proposed REC model. REC for complicated supercapacitor models is characterized using duality principle and a generic simulation model. Using the developed analytical models for practical supercapacitors, the size of network for perpetual operation is estimated, which is demonstrated to be significantly less than that predicted by considering ideal supercapacitor behavior. For example, with three-branch supercapacitor model, the estimated sustainable network size is shown to be nearly 52% less than that offered by the ideal supercapacitor model.

    This paper promotes the concept of smart and connected communities SCC, which is evolving from the concept of smart cities. SCC are envisioned to address synergistically the needs of remembering the past (preservation and revitalization), the needs of living in the present (livability), and the needs of planning for the future (attainability). Therefore, the vision of SCC is to improve livability, preservation, revitalization, and attainability of a community. The goal of building SCC for a community is to live in the present, plan for the future, and remember the past. We argue that Internet of Things (IoT) has the potential to provide a ubiquitous network of connected devices and smart sensors for SCC, and big data analytics has the potential to enable the move from IoT to real-time control desired for SCC. We highlight mobile crowdsensing and cyber-physical cloud computing as two most important IoT technologies in promoting SCC. As a case study, we present TreSight, which integrates IoT and big data analytics for smart tourism and sustainable cultural heritage in the city of Trento, Italy.

    An energy-efficient design is proposed under specific statistical quality-of-service (QoS) guarantees for delay-sensitive traffic in the downlink orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access networks. This design is based on Wu's effective capacity (EC) concept, which characterizes the maximum throughput of a system subject to statistical delay-QoS requirements at the data-link layer. In the particular context considered, our main contributions consist of quantifying the effective energy-efficiency (EEE)-versus-EC tradeoff and characterizing the delay-sensitive traffic as a function of the QoS-exponent θ, which expresses the exponential decay rate of the delay-QoS violation probabilities. Upon exploiting the properties of fractional programming, the originally quasi-concave EEE optimization problem having a fractional form is transformed into a subtractive optimization problem by applying Dinkelbach's method. As a result, an iterative inner-outer loop-based resource allocation algorithm is conceived for efficiently solving the transformed EEE optimization problem. Our simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme converges within a few Dinkelbach algorithm's iterations to the desired solution accuracy. Furthermore, the impact of the circuitry power, the QoS-exponent, and the power amplifier inefficiency is characterized numerically. These results reveal that the optimally allocated power maximizing the EEE decays exponentially with respect to both the circuitry power and the QoS-exponent, while decaying linearly with respect to the power amplifier inefficiency.

    A dielectric barrier discharge in Xe-Cl 2 mixtures has been investigated numerically in a wide range of operating conditions with the purpose to study their effects on the XeCl* excimer radiation by means of a 1-D fluid model. First, a simplified chemical kinetics scheme is proposed and validated by benchmarking with the long chemical kinetics. These results show a limited loss of accuracy of discharge properties, while it is two times faster in computational time as compared with the complete version. The simulated results demonstrate that the discharges are typically Glow-like. During the breakdown, the cathode fall region is contracted to 85 μm. At that instant, the number density of XeCl* molecules in the sheath is maximum, and the principal channel of the XeCl* generation is harpoon reactions. The UV-B radiation dependence on the total gas pressure, voltage amplitude, and frequency of power supply and gap width has been analyzed. It was shown that the maximal radiative efficiency of UV-B emission is obtained at low gas pressure, high alternating voltage frequency, and high gap width. The radiative efficiency slowly depends on amplitude of the source alternating voltage. In addition, the emission power of the B→X band of XeCl* molecules grows when frequency or amplitude of the source voltage increases as well as when pressure decreases, but the emission power depends weakly on the gap width. Furthermore, the most part of the power deposited in the gas goes into heating electrons and lesser part goes into heating ions in the cathode fall.

    In recent years, smart devices have become ubiquitous. Many of these devices are equipped with global positioning system (GPS), Wi-Fi, and other sensors. With their high mobility, the idea of mobile devices as probes has been attracting more and more attention. Mobility and flexibility offered by smart mobile devices are what traditional fixed sensors lack. However, mobile devices' power supplies are quite limited. Although GPS is accurate, its high power consumption somewhat limits its accessibility and sustainability. In contrast, Wi-Fi is less power hungry, but at the same time, less accurate. For the sake of sustainability, by adopting Wi-Fi as an alternative to GPS, longer operation is attainable at the cost of losing some degree of accuracy. In this paper, a Wi-Fi-based algorithm based on log-normal probability distribution of distances with respect to received signal strength is proposed. It is suitable for an outdoor environment, where Wi-Fi access points (APs) are abundant. Simulations are conducted over known AP locations, and results show that the proposed algorithm can save, on average, as much as 35% more battery power than GPS does. The average localization error is ~18 m, and the average velocity estimation error is ~25%.

    A unified and reconfigurable multifunctional transceiver for future integrated data-fusion services of radar sensing and radio communication (RadCom) is studied and developed in this paper. This proposed alternative of the state-of-the-art architectures presents an unprecedented integration of all radar sensing and RadCom functions together in a time-division platform. Furthermore, it is capable of offering a positioning function of both moving and static objects with an enhanced resolution in ranging in addition to providing a greater capability of data communication. The design and the performance incompatibilities between radar and radio systems are explored and investigated. A systematic top-bottom approach is presented, which involves the step-by-step methodology, building block design considerations, and the system level simulation. With the purpose of validating the proposed scheme, a low-frequency prototype around the FCC-commissioned dedicated short range communication (DSRC) band is developed, and its performance is evaluated. Since such a unified transceiver can find applications in intelligent transportation infrastructures, the system demonstrator is designed and examined according to the desired specifications of future automotive radar networks. Through various system level measurements, the proposed scheme has demonstrated attractive features in connection with both radar and radio functions. With the radar mode, the added ability of angle detection and the improved range resolution against the previously demonstrated version make the system suitable for driving assistance applications. With the radio mode, the system demonstrator has proved a great capability of communication at a data rate of 25 Mb/s.

    Smart grids require information and communication technology (ICT) in order to control dynamics in the power grid. However, adding ICT creates additional entry points in vulnerable hard- and software, increasing the attack surface, and provides distribution paths that can be used by malware for attacks. This paper provides a qualitative evaluation of smart grid architectures for urban environments, comparing four topology types based on six quality indicators: resource control, security, resilience, quality of service, compatibility, and cost. The impact of each power grid topology on the applicability of ICT components in communication topologies is also considered. We summarize the benefits and drawbacks of each topology with a focus on the implementation of decentralized and self-organizing structures.
