    1. Research Purpose
    “Confined Water Dynamics in Carbon Nanotubes for Efficient Nanofiltration” Freshwater shortage problem is a major global challenge that needs an immediate attention. According to the United Nations estimates, about one third of the world’s population is living today under an insufficient freshwater supply for sustaining the population. Finding a sustainable and inexpensive way to treat seawater to produce freshwater, a technology called the “seawater desalination”, would therefore act as an ultimate solution of the freshwater shortage problem of the 21st century.

    In recent years, CNT has been experimentally and theoretically proposed to transport water with very little friction, hence promising for desalination membrane applications with high energy efficiency (less pressure requirements). Since water is the key driving force for such nanofiltration applications, understanding the interaction of this liquid with the confined yet hydrophobic geometries of these tubes has a great impact on the optimal use of CNTs for filtration applications.
