    1. Research Purpose
    - Explain why this research is new and important
    Vitamin D is one of essential hormone which can be mainly obtained from sun exposure.
    Although there are some food sources and oral supplements as form of tablets or capsules, a large number of UAE residents have vitamin D deficiency according to International Osteoporosis Foundation(IOF). It could be serious problem for public health or national development. Therefore, it is needed to understand properties and metabolism of Vitamin D molecule in human body and more efficient assay and supplementation system is required for public health in UAE. Based on in vitro skin model, we tried to characterize vitamin-D3 molecule, which is one of the main chemical form of vitamin-D, with skin structure and develop novel transdermal delivery system to overcome limitations existing in conventional supplementation methods.

    - Justify how this research is connected to the project suggested by KU PI.
    Through the pathway from the skin layer and target organs, there are several chemical changes and conformational change as Vitamin-D3 molecules interact with plasma proteins in the serum. Thus, to set up efficient delivery system, understanding some biological changes associated withskin layer is helpful and necessary. Thus, based on analytical tools such as XRD or DSC which are widely used in biochemistry field, new analytical method for assaying vitamin-D3 molecule in laboratory condition will contribute to development of vitamin-D3 delivery system via transdermal route.
