    1. Research Purpose
    A smart-grid (SG) system is an intelligent electrical grid that uses Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) by enabling two-way interactions between suppliers and consumers. The key advantage of a SG system is the maintenance of the production and distribution of electricity in efficient manner. However, it has new vulnerabilities such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, leakage of personal information, and firmware attacks, etc. It is critical to make the SG system secure as an electrical grid, which is one of critical infrastructures in our daily lives.

    To address such vulnerabilities, a variety of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) have been developed and played vital roles in identifying unauthorized behaviors or illegal access within the network or system. SG system generates large-scale data (i.e., big data) since it sends and receives data continually between the suppliers and consumers. Large-scale data analytics play critical roles for such IDS built on a SG system. Furthermore, as electrical grids can have additional nodes during the process, such IDS designed for a SG system shall be flexible enough in the change of environments. Lastly but not the least, the detective performance of the IDS is also of great importance as it could damage the whole SG system.
