    a. Aim of Research
    The neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease are the most fatal and dominantly appeared diseases in aged people which induces serious social problems. Thus, an early diagnosis of them is one of the major health issues in the world including Korea and UAE. The beta (β)-amyloid and α-synuclein are known to be major protein components of Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s disease, respectively, which aggregate to be neurotoxic senile plaques. However, to sense them in the early stage of aggregates is still remained to challenge, because the initiating structure of toxicitic plaques is dimer, trimer or tetramer that cannot be easily sensed or visualized by any experimental tools. Also, the critical point to be triggered into oligomers from dimers cannot be predicted. Thus, to detect their concentration together with the finding of the inhibitors for the self-aggregation of β-amyloid and α-synuclein will be a valuable task for the preparation n of the silver generations, which can save the social costs caused by the neurodegenerative diseases.
    Graphene is a potential material for electronic and optoelectronic devices because of its outstanding physical, chemical, and optical properties. Accordingly, graphene has been studied not only for transparent electrodes and optoelectronics but also for the molecule sensing substrate using surfaceenhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and surface plasmon resonance (SPR). SERS and SPR have been widely used to enhance the sensitivity of biosensors. Recently, its oxidation form, graphene oxide has been reported for protein or DNA sensors with considerable high sensitivity compared to those without graphene oxide. Therefore, graphene can be a promising material for probing or sensing biomaterials. However, the optical properties such as SERS and SPR of graphene without oxidation process are still needed further studies to use an analytical method for proteins, nucleic acids, and small molecules, and this is the motivation we would adopt the graphene as an electrical and optical sensing substrate for biomaterials.
